Actalent Mechanical Engineer in Ellabell, Georgia

Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer responsible for the design of automated industrial machinery. The ideal candidate should be very comfortable with 3D modeling software, specifically SolidWorks. The role involves specifying mechanical parts, material selection, and designing equipment for efficient manufacturability. Utilizing advanced knowledge of mechanical theory and principles of operation, you will work independently or within a team with minimal supervision. You will be involved in producing quotations for custom industrial automation applications and overseeing projects through to installation and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Design automated industrial machinery independently or collaboratively.

  • Utilize 3D modeling software, specifically SolidWorks.

  • Specify mechanical parts, select materials, and design equipment for efficient manufacturability.

  • Apply advanced knowledge of mechanical theory and principles of operation.

  • Produce quotations for custom industrial automation applications and oversee projects through installation and commissioning.

  • Perform high-level troubleshooting and critical thinking to solve mechanical or process problems using internal and external resources.

  • Assist in troubleshooting machinery, equipment, and components within existing industrial machinery.

  • Support mechanical crew during machine installation and commissioning projects, including interfacing auxiliary equipment, identifying and correcting design errors.

  • Stay updated on new mechanical technologies, industry trends, and standards affecting current operations.

Essential Skills

  • 5 years of experience in Mechanical Design and Drawing within a related industry (industrial, manufacturing, automated machinery, etc.).

  • Strong and recent skills working with SolidWorks 3D.

  • Experience in converting machinery, parts, and full system concepts into manufacturable drawings.

  • Familiarity with controls, automation systems, and PLCs.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of an office setup with desks and standard office equipment, alongside a panel shop, machine shop, and fabrication shop. You will also have hands-on experience working with equipment and seeing the physical products being created. There is a travel component, with 10-15% domestic travel to customer sites in the US as needed. The company operates on a 4-day workweek, Monday through Thursday, with opportunities for overtime hours.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $52.88/hr.
