Job Summary

The Sr Manager, Project Management Office (PMO), reporting directly to the Director, PMO, is responsible for the organizational development and functional management for one or more sub-groups within the of Terumo Medical Corporation (TMC) Project Management Office, as defined. This position will have direct supervisory, development and performance planning responsibility for Project Manager, Sr. Project Manager and Program Manager personnel within the group. The Sr Manager, PMO will be accountable for the successful attainment of project performance, cost and schedule objectives for all projects under the groups’ management and within the broader portfolio. The Sr Manager, PMO will serve as a leading subject matter expert (SME) to the organization in the deployment of the appropriate project management tools and techniques, the execution of new product development projects and manufacturing transfer projects in accordance with QA101 Product Development Process & Design Controls; and serve as the facilitator of the TMC Stage-Gate project review process. The Sr Manager, PMO will also take on PMO and/or business focused duties as assigned by the Director, PMO or the VP of Product Development and Lifecycle Management (PD&LCM).

Job Details/Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for the organizational development and functional management of within TMC Project Management Office (PMO).

  2. Provides direct supervision, development and performance planning to Project Manager, Sr. Project Manager and Program Manager personnel within the group; prepares associate Performance Plans, Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and conduct mid- and full year Performance Reviews with associates.

  3. Accountable for cross-functional execution of multiple complex projects to include new product development, manufacturing transfer, and other product & process related critical projects as assigned by the TMC Executive Committee being managed within the group.

  4. Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment on project scope, roles and responsibilities, and work with functional managers to remove roadblocks to allow projects to progress and meet milestones in a timely manner.

  5. Ensures all assigned new product development, manufacturing process transfer, compliance remediation activities and major process improvement projects are managed and executed in full compliance with the appropriate Terumo procedures as defined in TMSWeb.

  6. Serves as a lead SME to the TMC organization in the deployment of the appropriate project management tools and techniques for project management.

  7. Prepares presentations and formally presents project updates and reviews to senior management.

  8. Drives post project evaluation and assessment, developing lessons learned to be shared across the PMO to improve the quality and efficiency of future projects.

  9. Conducts organizational training on the Terumo NPD development process, design controls, and project management tools.

  10. Leads special projects as assigned by the Sr. Manager/Director of the TMC PMO.

  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  1. This position is located in the TMC facility located in Elkton, MD.

  2. The position will perform required duties mainly in an office environment that is co-located adjacent to the Terumo Interventional Systems (TIS) NPD Laboratory and TMC Manufacturing Operations.

  3. Access to hospitals and hospital operating rooms will be required to meet with clinicians and observe relevant clinical procedures associated with new product development activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)

o Demonstrated solid interpersonal skills through performance in global cross-functional project management leadership positions.

o Must have excellent leadership skills in inspiring, driving, and executing results through others.

o Must demonstrate and model effective listening, written and verbal communications, sound logical judgment, and organizational skills, while at the same time creating in others both a sense of urgency and a commitment to excellence.

o Champion for cross-functional understanding and ownership of project schedules and accountability of timing and duration of deliverables.

o Strong and demonstrated understanding of advanced project management tools and techniques to include proficiency in MS Project and simultaneous management of multiple projects within a Stage-Gate process.

o Extensive experience in the development and manufacture of global Medical Devices in accordance with global regulatory and quality standards and requirements.

o Functional management and organizational development experience in managing a technical group.

o Experience in preparing Performance and Individual Development Plans and conducting Performance Reviews.

o Demonstrated understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the cross-functional activities needed to successfully develop and transfer new products to manufacturing and release for commercialization.

o Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written is required.

Qualifications/ Background Experiences

  • BS in Engineering or other related technical field; advanced degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred.

  • Program Management Institute (PMI) certification.

  • Project Manager of global cross-functional project teams that successfully developed and released new medical device products into the marketplace.

  • More than 10 years of experience in new product development projects in the medical device field.
