Aerotek Mechanical Assembler in Elgin, Illinois

Job Title: Assembler

Job Description

Candidate will be performing assembly of wind turbine power transmissions and their subassemblies. Works from blueprints, parts lists, and assembly cards. Uses parts washers, freezers, ovens, cranes, hand and power tools. Will shim and final assemble gear units. Can work alone, with other assemblers, and oversee lower grade assemblers. May perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Candidates will learn about gearboxes and all of the components used in both assemblies and sub-assemblies, including pinions, torque arms, and ring gears. Training will be provided on safely operating an overhead crane to lift, hoist, and move gearboxes. Candidates will disassemble gearboxes, using torque wrenches or impact guns as needed, and read or interpret gearbox documentation and step-by-step instructions. Attention to detail is critical, especially when recording serial numbers for each part. After basic training, candidates will start in the parts washing area, then move to sub-assembly, assembly, and customer addon assembly stages, following specific instructions for each stage.

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Elgin, Illinois.

Work Environment

The facility is modern, clean, well-lit, climate-controlled, and organized by departments. It is divided into NEW PRODUCTION, WIND SERVICE, INDUSTRIAL, and LOGISTICS departments. Contractors will be provided with a company shirt but should wear their own durable pants. The facility operates under 5S principles (sort, set-in-order, shine, standardize, sustain) and has gone five years without a lost-time injury. Safety glasses and masks are required on-site at all times. The culture is team-oriented, supportive, and flexible, with an emphasis on effort and improvement. The shift schedule is from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm with two 20-minute paid breaks.
