Position Overview

This Mission Operations Engineer will provide systems engineering support for space segment operations and system engineering tasks during system development through launch and early operations (LEOPS) preparation, execution, and mission execution of the on-orbit constellation. This opening will require on-site presence at facilities in El Segundo, CA with some travel to Colorado Springs, CO and the Washington DC area.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide systems engineering support to develop, integrate, and test on-orbit operational products for a medium to large sized satellite constellation, working closely with the prime contractor mission operations lead. This position will provide operational support during LEOPS and mission execution, which include periods of time supporting 24/7 in-person or on-call support. Specific responsibilities of this role include:

  • Develop procedures and stored command sequences for mission execution

  • Review and update mission sequence of events to meet mission requirements

  • Develop, update, and review mission and program documentation (e.g. on-orbit handbooks, concepts of operations, etc.)

  • Test mission execution in a simulated environment and on hardware integrated testbeds

  • Support development of and participate in mission rehearsals

  • Problem solver who thrives in fast-paced environment and takes initiative to drive results

  • Provide 24/7 in-person or on-call support after launch

  • Travel to Colorado Springs, CO and/or the Washington DC area for technical exchanges and training

    Minimum Qualifications

    Must have at least 4 years of relevant on-orbit satellite operations experience with ability to troubleshoot satellite anomalies, perform risk management, have familiarity with astrodynamics, and work in a high tempo environment. This position requires an active Top Secret security clearance, with the ability to gain access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Programs (SAP).

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience with any of the following:

  • Mission planning for medium to large sized constellations

  • Guidance, navigation, and controls (GNC) methodologies and concepts

  • Advanced understanding of astrodynamics

  • Familiarity working within a Linux environment

    Education/Experience  

    At least 4 years of experience with on-orbit satellite operations OR equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.

    Clearance Requirement

    Top Secret Clearance (Active) with ability to gain access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Programs (SAP).
