Position Description:

The anesthesiologist makes all the medical decisions about anesthetizing a patient for surgery and who is responsible for the safety and well-being of the patient before, during, and immediately following the surgical procedure. This includes maintaining the patient in a state of controlled unconsciousness (while under general anesthesia), providing pain relief and monitoring the patient's critical life functions (breathing, heart rate and heart rhythm, blood pressure, body temperature, blood oxygen saturation) as they are affected throughout surgical, obstetrical or other medical procedures. At all times, the anesthesiologist will practice their profession in accordance with applicable professional and governmental law and regulations.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Provides physician staffing and support for weekly Anesthesiology inpatient and outpatient hospital services contracted with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine campus in El Paso, Texas.

  • Provides anesthesiology coverage of monthly hospital based call coverage schedules at both University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of El Paso.

  • Provides high quality & cost effective medical care to an anesthesiology patient population of all age groups based on a regional standard of medical care.

  • Provides staffing and surgical support for anesthesiology operative cases that take place at both University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of El Paso.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduated from an approved accredited School of Medicine with an M.D. degree.

  • License/Certification:

  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer license to Texas.

  • Certificate or license for prescribing controlled substances.

  • Experience: At least three years post-graduate training in primary care medicine.
