Philips Sr. Usability Designer in Eindhoven, Netherlands

With your expertise in Usability (Human-factor) design, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create safe products and deliver great user experience to our customers.

Your role:

  • Be part of a journey to integrate Design into Philips DXR, where you can demonstrate and practice User-centered design, fundamentally improve Usability design quality across our organization. This will enable us to deliver faster and more effective diagnosis and intervention to care givers and patients through DXR innovations.

  • Partner with cross-functional team including engineering, marketing, clinical, service, quality and regulatory on the creation of an excellent user- and patient experience for our DXR products and ensure safe and effective use.

  • Conduct various Usability activities throughout programs (not limited to): user researches (to understand user needs, workflows), Usability studies (formative, summative), documentation (task analysis, Usability FMEA, study protocol/report for regulatory submission).

  • Make fundamental contributions to the usability-related innovation of products or processes, based on research and (pre)development; influence design decisions and product strategy.

  • Stay on top of developments and insights regarding medical device regulations for all markets, and proactively advise teams and leadership on development needs.

  • This position might require up to 10-15% travel annually.

You're the right fit if:

  • At least 5 years of progressive experience as a Usability specialist or related, preferably in complex environments.

  • Academic background in industrial design, product design, or cognitive psychology with a focus on Human-Computer Interaction or Human Factors.

  • You have strong problem-solving and communication skills; can translate user insights into actionable design recommendations.

  • Plus: you’re broadly experienced in Medical Devices or other safety-critical areas (automotive, aviation, military).

  • Plus: you worked with usability standards specific to medical devices (IEC 62366, FDA guidance, EU-MDR, and CMDE). And you understand risk management principles (e.g., ISO 14971) and their application to medical device usability.
