Materials and Structural Analysis, a division of Thermo Fisher Scientific headquartered in Hillsboro, Oregon, designs, manufactures, and supports high-performance microscopy workflows for the life sciences, materials sciences, and semiconductor industries. As a member of the Life Science Business Unit’s end-to-end workflows team, you'll help define, develop, and test our newest solutions for enabling innovative sample preparation solutions at our Eindhoven location.

Job Summary

Within our Life Science Business Unit we are looking for an experienced and motivated Application Specialist focusing on supporting our R&D, sales, applications and marketing teams as the subject matter expert for mass spectrometry. In this role you will work with R&D to turn customer requirements into validated workflows, generate compelling marketing collateral, and work with product management to explore additional application spaces. You'll also take part in cross-divisional initiatives and drive collaborations with customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as internal mass spectrometry subject matter expert, supporting our R&D, sales, applications and demo teams.

  • Perform experiments and generate collateral including customer presentations, application notes, and white papers based on results.

  • Identify likely areas of emerging applications and propose applications solutions to product management.

  • Work with Advanced Technologies, R&D and the Product Managers on new product requirements and early system/performance testing.

  • Analyze potential applications feasibility and performance by product testing.

  • Prepare and deliver customer and sales training presentations as required on application/product topics

Requirements for the role

  • A Masters of PhD degree in analytical chemistry, structural biology or equivalent

  • Demonstratable experience with liquid chromatography and native mass spectrometry required

  • Experience with instrument development is considered a competitive advantage.

  • Affinity with structural biology and willingness to learn cryo-EM

  • Proficient in English speaking and writing

  • Comfortable in delivering presentations for diverse audiences

  • Ability to share information clearly and consistently with customers and colleagues

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse levels of customers and internal employees.

  • Ability to transform customer requirements into appealing workflows

  • Self motivated with a high bias for action.

  • Up to 15% travel including international travel.
