Job Description

AECOM Environment team in Edmonton is looking for an Environmental Technician to assist in environmental investigation programs such as environmental drilling investigation, soil, groundwater and soil vapour sampling. This will be based in Edmonton, AB.

The successful candidate will be working within a team of other technicians and junior engineers under the supervision of professional engineers and geologists. The position will involve assisting in all aspects of environmental projects with a focus on field work including subcontractor coordination

This position is a full-time role .

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of tasks in support of project staff.

  • May gather and maintain specified records of scientific data for supervisor, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections at client sites.

  • Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation.

  • Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • Diploma in Environmental Technology/Geological Technology or similar

  • Willing to travel within the province/country for work, including extended travel

  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications :

  • 1+ year of knowledge/experience:

  • Groundwater Monitoring – purging and sample collection from monitoring wells

  • Drilling – environmental drilling, ground disturbance procedures, soil description and monitoring well installation

  • Soil sampling – field screening, soil sample collection procedures

  • Field notes – taking organized and details field notes, recording observations

  • Safety – leading and participating in field meetings, oversight of subcontractors, contribute to and following safe work practices, developing/following/implementing safety plans and a day to day basis, recognizing hazards, confidence in exercising stop work authority.

  • Strong team work, able to listen to requirements and work well with others

  • Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Critical thinking and problem solving

  • Ability to learn new tasks

  • Flexible and hard working

  • Able to work outdoors, often in inclement weather conditions, physically able to walk long distances in rugged terrain and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment.
