Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the Process Improvement Specialist will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the Electrical Assembly department. The Process Improvement Specialist, will be responsible for supporting fab or assembly activities. Current openings for day shift.

Essential Responsibilities

• Support fab or assembly activities such as productivity, quality, and execution of fabrication or assembly processes.

• Improvement initiatives assigned to fabrication or assembly operation processes.

• Initiatives as assigned by Manufacturing Engineering.

• Daily responsibilities:

• Product Consulting – Identify issues with processes and fixtures, perform root cause analysis, propose solutions and sustainment plan(s) and advise ME and leadership of findings and recommended solutions.

• Support leadership and ME with the production of fabricated steel parts. (fabrication only)

• Support the fabrication or assembly kitting processes.

• Support operations effort with research and development of procedures, fixtures, tooling, equipment strategies, and developmental training of employees.

• Administrative programming.

• Support Part flow through applicable fabrication or assembly processes.

• Assist with equipment and/or systems troubleshooting.

• Order Parts and perform spot-buys through the ERP (EBS & MES).

• Update or compose JHA’s.

• Update or compose operating procedures for applicable fabrication or assembly processes.

• Setup training courses in the Powell Training Data Base.

• Update or compose training documents for applicable fabrication or assembly processes.

• Support the shop employees, shop leadership, and applicable ME with the continuous improvement process of tooling, fixture design, build, process, and programming.

• Support the shop employees, shop leadership, and applicable ME with programs, processes, and maintenance.

• Support the applicable ME with the creation and maintenance of DMR’s and drawing changes.

• Monitor any applicable maintenance with outside suppliers.

• Lead projects in support of fabrication or assembly.

• Evaluate tool crib and tool management processes. (assembly only)

• Issue employee stamps.

Job Requirements - Core Competencies

• You must be an organized, self-starter with above average problem solving ability. Also, you must be able to work alone and unsupervised while under intense pressure from Production customers. Most importantly, you must be able to work as part of a multi-cultural, multi-disciplined team while achieving your highest potential performance.

  • High School Diploma or general education diploma; Associates degree preferred

  • 2-4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.

• Weld credentials (fabrication only)

• Knowledge of practical or documented understanding of weld equipment.

• Demonstrate the ability to program and troubleshoot automated and robotic equipment.

• Ability to read electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics, and mechanical drawings.

• Knowledge of ISO 9000 Quality system.

• Experience with PCs and Windows software.

• Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.

• CNC Programming for the following machines: Amada Turrets, Laser cutting machines, Cincinnati Press Brakes, EVO, KOIKE, EHRT, Franklin, Bradbury Rollformer, Pivatic (fabrication only)

Working Conditions

  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.

  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.

  • Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders) and scaffolding.

  • Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air on or using proper lift equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.

  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.

  • Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.

  • Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.

  • Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.

  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.

  • Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
