Scope of Job

The Department of Anthropology at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is a growing program, currently housing ten faculty, mentoring more than 65 majors, featuring an Interdisciplinary Master’s degree program, and serving students across campus through numerous General Education Core courses. A strong feature of our department is community-engaged research, both locally in the RGV and at other locations nationally and internationally. To that end, we seek a student employee who will help communicate our research and assist in community outreach through a variety of activities. These include:

  • Maintaining the department webpage to reflect current research and highlight departmental news;

  • Produce content for the department’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). This may include sharing anthropological content from other accounts, from research articles, or creating summaries of departmental news and projects;

  • Develop promotional materials in both print (flyers, posters, etc.) and digital formats to highlight departmental programs of study, course offerings, etc.;

  • Participation at recruitment and public outreach events, such as Archaeology Day, to share information about the program and about the discipline of anthropology more generally;

  • Assist with responses for requests/comments within our social media realms;

  • Participate in the organization and promotion of invited guests lecture series;

  • Lab management.
