Scope of Job
The Associate Vice Provost will work with the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs to implement a vision and strategic and operational leadership to the University in the broad area of faculty affairs. They will implement a chair leadership development program to prepare unit leaders to advance units to R1 status. The Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs will take leadership in overseeing the faculty success programs to ensure that faculty are successful in their teaching, scholarship, service, and leadership to build and strengthen the academic mission. The Associate Vice Provost will support and assist the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs in all initiatives aimed at strengthening our trajectory to R1, with a focus on Faculty Success and Leadership Development.
Description of Duties
Faculty Success
Planning, directing, evaluating, and developing programs and initiatives aimed at the growth, development, retention, and success of UTRGV’s faculty.
Assisting units with information, resources, and processes for faculty success.
Prioritizing faculty recognition in a timely manner.
Designing professional and leadership development, and assists with faculty annual evaluations, tenure & non-tenure track promotions, faculty recruitment, and appointments of faculty, as well as with interpretation, implementation and communication of policies and procedures in the areas of faculty affairs and development.
Developing R1 initiatives in faculty success and development with a focus on excellence.
Interpreting HOP policies for faculty search committee, faculty review committee, grievance policies and answering questions for faculty related to such policies
Conceptualizing and implementing effective communication networks.
Write grants for Faculty Success initiatives.
Leadership Development
Designing professional and leadership development.
Collaborating with stakeholders within Academic Affairs and other divisions within the institution in developing leadership initiatives for new and emerging faculty and academic leaders and developing comprehensive evaluation plans to monitor and assess initiatives.
Serving as information resource for Chairs/Directors.
In the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs’ absence or as needed, the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs will be responsible for the continued operations of the Office of Faculty Affairs and any emergency situations requiring immediate attention.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Terminal Degree from an accredited university.

Applicant currently holds a comparable position at UTRGV .

Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
