The VP People, Technology will help shape and execute the talent strategies for the Optum Technology Team at UnitedHealth Group, creating a wealth of opportunity for an experienced human capital strategic partner to contribute across a broad range of priorities, including culture building, workforce strategy, organization effectiveness, talent agenda, leadership bench strength, and employee experience.

In this role you will be aligned to support key members of the Optum Technology Executive team, including the Chief Digital and Technology Officer, and responsible for developing a people and talent strategy to support the long-term business objectives. You will leverage extensive organizational development and global experience to help support the organization’s evolution and future growth.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Coaching and development of US based high impact 30,000+ member technology organization. Partners collaboratively with Global leader to play a strategic leadership role in helping shape the strategy for our technology teams in India, Ireland, Philippines, and UK

  • Consulting & Coaching: Lead as primary and strategic partner to Chief Digital and Technology Officer and support senior technology leaders driving strategies to achieve business outcomes.

  • Organizational Development: Uses a consulting framework to improve the health and effectiveness of the organization through various methods, tools and techniques impacting business results. Examples include organization design and integrations, change enablement and leadership, workforce planning and global onshore/offshore talent mix, effective leadership, and coaching.

  • Data and Analytics: Leverages data and analytic skills to drive decision making and action. Designs, develops, and deploys technology-first solutions through on-going analysis and tying multiple data sets together to recommend organizational design actions aligned with business strategies Responsible for quarterly reporting of human capital metrics for QBRs as well as for management of, MBO targets.

  • Talent Management: Understands the organizational talent strategy, talent plans and supply chain of internal and external talent. Drives business-forward talent strategy and plans by applying talent acquisition, workforce planning, total rewards and inclusion and diversity practices to drive talent outcomes. Develops collaborative relationship with the enterprise talent office to drive all talent development activity inclusive of buy/build/upskill development strategies.

  • Culture and Employee Experience: Deep understanding of Technology cultures, diversity and the drivers impacting a positive employee experience. Fosters inclusion, diversity and culture practices to create and maintain a positive, rewarding, and inclusive environment.

  • Business Fluency: Financial understanding and business operations knowledge. Understands how the business unit operates, major categories of cost and how profits are generated. Able to articulate the strategy, customer base and external factors impacting the business.

  • Diversity & Inclusion: Integrates, aligns, and embeds Inclusion and Diversity Strategy within the People Strategy and all aspects of Human Capital Work

  • Demonstrated experience in being highly influential, disruptive strategic thinker, willing to challenge conventional and siloed thinking, drive change and offer a different viewpoint.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business or Behavioral Science or related field or demonstrated equivalency.

  • 15 or more years of proven leadership of global, matrixed teams and commitment to professional development of team members

  • Experience successfully leveraging Center of Excellence functions, and partnership within a matrixed (i.e. shared services delivery model) environment at a large, global, complex organization.

  • Demonstrated systems thinking including influencing executives in shaping and implementing long-term business strategies aligned with Human Capital strategies.

  • Extensive experience in problem solving and business transformation in a fast-paced, rapidly changing and ambiguous, complex environment.

  • Proven successful consulting and interpersonal agility competencies demonstrated across various types of critical executive stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience applying data and analytics to influence decision making and business outcomes.

  • Experience developing talent strategies and executing plans aligned with the culture and overall employee experience to drive business outcomes.

  • Experience demonstrating business fluency and knowledge.

  • Demonstrated competence in leading and driving the talent agenda, including developing a solid leadership bench.

  • Experience developing and implementing workforce strategy, aligned with and driving business outcomes.

  • Experience leading organization design and implementing change at scale.

  • Ability to travel internationally on a semi-annual basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated history of positive employee experience through all aspects of Human Capital work

  • Experience working within a global matrixed environment.

  • Experience and expertise in technology, start-up and rapid growth industries.

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington , Washington, D.C. Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. residents is $250,000-$325,000 per year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
