The Revenue Cycle Consulting Manager will work with the Revenue Cycle Solution Design (RCSD) team and their client counterparts to plan and perform revenue cycle assessments and full due diligence activities for clients interested in sourcing their revenue cycle to Optum. The RCSD team is responsible for identifying revenue improvement and efficiency opportunities across the entire revenue cycle, both acute and ambulatory clients. The team leads full partnership due diligence efforts to estimate the benefit that can be generated for a potential client and Optum, supports creating financial models, plans for the transition and supports the legal contracting process. This role requires revenue cycle operations subject matter expertise but it is not an operations only role. This is a growth role, supports multi-million, billion dollar sales pursuits with tight timelines across months of diligence and partnership creation activities. The manager represents the revenue cycle services and is the “face of Optum” during the sale.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages timelines and project plans through the completion of the assessment and full due diligence design process

  • Serves as the key contact for a potential client, including reviewing the assessment and diligence data requests, conducting operational interviews, and posing any necessary questions back to the client in order to validate findings and observations

  • Owns a specific work stream of the end-to-end assessment and ensuring we meet the timelines and deliverables for the entire due diligence processes at a single potential client site

  • Communicates effectively within the Revenue Cycle Solution Design team, the broader department stakeholders, internal executives as well as externally with client leadership

  • Prepares sophisticated sales deliverables to communicate the value of Optum’s revenue cycle services, potential cost savings and benefits based on the high level assessment and full due diligence efforts

  • Acquires and processes client data necessary for high level assessment and full due diligence efforts. Demonstrates ability to analyze large volumes of data to produce useable results to meet evaluation objectives

  • Collaborates cross-functionally to create, refine and integrate solutions tailored to the prospective clients

  • Collaborates with other functional units (operations, finance, human capital, product, delivery assurance and compliance) to ensure timely reviews and contributions to diligence, financials and final deliverables

  • Contributes to Revenue Cycle Solution Design methodology development and other functional assignments as assigned

  • Demonstrates creativity to design approach and problem-solving skills

  • Provides operational subject matter expertise and leads the development of revenue cycle sales materials in preparation for initial and ongoing prospective client conversations

  • Supports innovation execution for strategic organization initiatives and participates in business development programs

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Revenue Cycle experience working with hospital-based revenue cycle operations team and a healthcare consulting firm

  • 5+ years of experience in acute or ambulatory revenue cycle operations across any combination of the following areas: Business Office, Patient Access, Health Information Management, Revenue Integrity, Coding, and/or Clinical Documentation Improvement

  • 5+ years of Business Development and/or Account Management experience, working directly with external C-suite clients supporting and executing sales contracts and participating or leading negotiations

  • Consistent career track of taking initiative with limited direction

  • Experience developing cost benefit / ROI analyses

  • Experience delivering formal and informal presentations to external prospective clients (VP and C-Suite level) and internal revenue cycle operations and finance executives (VP and C-Suite level)

  • Experience managing external client relationships for long periods of time and building rapport with executives (6-9+ months)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office PowerPoint to create sales deliverables with exacting detail and flawless polish to support multi-million dollar sales pursuits

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel and PowerBI to analyze large data sets for quality assurance on completeness of data, trends, pinpoints issues to explore. Must be able to utilize pivot tables, charts and formulas for data sorting, display and analysis

  • Demonstrates relentless attention to detail for accuracy in financial projections and completeness in deliverables

  • Proven effectively communicate ideas and value Optum can bring at an executive level (brings right level of detail, tailors message to the audience, can pivot messaging in the moment to address questions or direction audience wants to go)

  • Ability to travel domestically 25% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HFMA / ACHE certification

  • Outsourcing operations and/or assessment experience

  • Knowledge of Optum revenue cycle solutions (technology and/or services)

  • Subject matter expertise in contact center, health information management, coding and/or clinical documentation improvement operations

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
