The Director of Strategy will report to the Whole Health Solutions (“WHS”) Senior Director of Strategy and Market Intelligence. This position will have accountability to partner across the Whole Health Solutions team and the broader Optum organization on understanding and assessing the external landscape, establishing organizational and Employer channel-specific business strategies aligned with the vision of the organization, and define key enablers based on trends and opportunities in the market. Additionally, this position will need to be highly collaborative and influential across the Whole Health Solutions team and broader enterprise to assess opportunities for partnership and further enterprise strategic initiatives.
The Director of Strategy will work with WHS Employer Channel Leader and key partners to frame the market, identify market opportunities, build analytics-based strategic plans, support business initiatives, develop growth strategies, and define short- and longer-term business priorities for Whole Health Solutions. In order to do this, the Director of Strategy will have a solid understanding of market dynamics, member and customer needs, behavioral and medical benefits channel needs, regulatory impacts, and Optum capabilities across the healthcare landscape. In addition, this leader will help "shape the narrative" throughout the organization to gain strategic support and enable execution planning. This position will also support business development activities (partnerships, joint ventures, or M&A) ensuring connectivity and adequate representation of the WHS strategy and team members in guiding and supporting partnership efforts.
This leader will need to work closely with critical partners such as Chief Medical Officers, Benefits & Services leaders, Product Development, Optum Care, Finance, Technology and Human Capital.

Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic planning and analysis: Including strategy development and partnership with Finance on financial projections and assistance aligning the organization to refreshed strategic direction
Whole Health Solution topic-specific strategies and initiatives: Create market winning strategies deeper into the organization in alignment with the overall WHS strategy (condition, population, treatment, etc. specific strategies)
Channel-level strategies: Highlight opportunities, drive clear priorities and reinforce the combined benefits and care delivery value prop across several strategic initiatives to drive profitable growth
Partnership support: Ensure alignment to WHS strategy and drive connectivity for appropriate leadership and subject matter engagement

Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree preferred or equivalent experience, solid preference for an MBA
5+ years of relevant industry experience (healthcare, insurance, finance and/or consulting)
3+ years of experience developing business strategies and planning, including experience with market overviews, understanding competitive positioning, identifying growth opportunities, analyzing market trends, capital planning and understanding customer needs
Experience on teams with high results orientation and a focus on innovation
Experience communicating with and influencing thinking of C-Suite executives
Experience delivering results with large-scale, cross-functional teams in highly matrixed organizations
Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects to ensure their quality and on-time delivery
Proven track record of accomplishing work through others and inspiring others through times of ambiguity
Superior conceptual, analytical and financial acumen
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a risk-based organization
Portfolio Management Experience
Operational experience (operations, product development, marketing, finance, sales, etc.)

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
