COMPENSATION: $90/dayfor new hires, $105/day returning staff

  

SUMMARY

This is a seasonal exchange program that is located atCampOrkilaon beautiful Orcas Island, WA.Duties and positions may include any orall ofthe following:  

  • Office and Administration 

  • Maintenance 

  • Housekeeping

  • Kitchen

  • Camp Retail Store 

  • Laundry 

  • Mail

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Adheres to assigned work schedule 

  2. Performs duties with care and attention to detail 

  3. Maintains safety and cleanliness standards.  

  4. Maintains equipment in sound and safe order. 

  5. Attendsstaff meetings andtrainings. 

  6. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. 

  7. Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This joboperatesin a residential camp, both inside and outdoors. This role occasionally uses standard lawn care or office equipment. This job operates at a seasonal residential camp, both inside and outdoors.Staff typically live in either shared cabins with campers, or in shared and housing with staff for the duration of employment. Specific housing depends on position and availability.

  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  

While performing the duties of this job, the employeeis regularly required totalk orhear. The employeefrequentlyis required tostand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift store or janitorial products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time,shift position. A typical shift is 8:30am-5:00pm with a 30-minute, unpaid lunch break. The usual camp workweek is six days on and one day off, including training, staff meetings, and regular duties. This summer camp position is exempt from minimum wage and overtime regulations per State of Washington wage and hour law. 

  

TRAVEL

This position isrequiredto live onsite at camp. All travelrequiredfor work will be done by YMCA Authorized Drivers.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  1. 18 years of age or older 

  2. Current certifications in CPR and First Aid (paid courseisprovided, if necessary, as a part of training)

  3. 1-2 years of experience in office, maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen,retail, or otherenvironmentswhichprovidethe knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position

  4. Strong English language skills 

  5. Ability to relate to parents/caregivers, campers, and staffin a professional manner.

If appliable, othercombinations of applicable education, training, and experience whichprovidethe knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

  

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Preferknowledge of, andpreviousexperience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful. 

  2. Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building.
