Job Summary:

Caterpillar IT GCIO SD&D are looking for AWS Technical Architect.

AWS Technical Architect will enable Caterpillar to deliver value to the bottom line by modernizing many of its legacy applications including, Warranty, parts pricing, and inventory management. You will provide solutions for IT and business management on applying modern technology to business opportunities, planning and implementation of cross-functional applications.

You will also provide expertise to solve business challenges and achieve profitable business strategies leveraging Caterpillar’s global footprint.

As AWS technical lead you will interface with product owners, IT architects, stakeholders, senior leadership, technical or non-technical teams, and Program Managers to design scalable technical solutions for many of our modernization projects to meet the future needs of our business partners.

What You Will Do:

  • Define and implement architecture designs that consider functionality, cost, performance, scalability, reusability, security, and extensibility.

  • Enhance our cloud capability by creating and implementing cloud-first patterns.

  • Plays a leadership role in defining systems integration processes and practices.

  • Work closely with Caterpillar IT & Cat Digital architects and SM to create and maintain architecture artifacts, operational documents, and automation playbooks.

  • Provide consulting services to internal business and IT teams on process improvement projects designed to improve business values.

  • Provide architectural expertise, direction, and assistance to facilitate the delivery of solutions that align with business objectives in a cost-efficient manner.

  • Actively seek ways to improve processes and interactions.

  • Answers product owners, stakeholders and downstream application support questions; provides guidance and support for product integration and infrastructure issues.

  • Anticipate complex business problems or process optimization opportunities, identify alternatives, and recommend the best solutions working closely with global functional teams and Enterprise Architecture.

  • Assist SM, Technical lead and development teams to analyze, define and document client's requirements, and revise existing systems logic challenges, as necessary. Provides insight into developing diverse and multiple requirements analyses.

  • Adapt to diverse business climates.

  • Participate on 2-3 projects concurrently.

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field

  • At least 5+ years of experience in designing solutions using at least three disciplines: cloud architecture (AWS), software development, data platform integration, business processes and capabilities, focusing on scalability, security, performance, and cost to serve.

  • Experience working on large-scale projects and with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as Snowflake, MySQL, …

  • Excellent skills in message brokers such as Kafka, AWS SQS, AWS SNS, Apache ActiveMQ, ..

  • Excellent skills in application architectural patterns such as MVC, Microservices, or Event driven.

  • Experience in writing API proxies on platforms such as Apigee Edge or AWS API Gateway

  • Experience in automation testing tools such as Selenium, Cucumber, Web driver I/O and their integration into CI/CD pipelines.

  • Experience in data storage solutions such as Postgres, MySQL, Snowflake … Demonstrate strong initiative to research and apply new solutions to exceed customer expectations.

  • Have excellent collaboration skills.

Top candidates will have proven experience in the following:

  • Current or prior experience in IA

  • Good effective communications skills being able to explain conclusions to our business partners.

  • Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Utilizing CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps

  • Agile Scrum Master certification or experience with Agile methodology

The primary location for this position is East Peoria, IL or Chicago, IL.
