As a Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) Project Team Leader (internally known as 6 Sigma Black Belt), Medium Tractor Product (MTP) CPI black belts utilize the corporate CPI process and tools for leading teams to resolve product and process issues and implement improvements in production and/or on existing products with dealers and customers. This individual works closely with MTP platform and major (engine, cabs, transmission, undercarriage, etc.) system engineering teams, machine development teams, suppliers, and production facilities to identify and implement these improvements. Projects primarily support MTP and Earthmoving Product design controls directly associated with MTP. Projects typically address design, supplier quality, manufacturing, and/or assembly quality issues.

What You Will Do:

  • Complete 6 Sigma black belt and CPI project leader training as soon as practical once on the job.

  • Lead and manage CPI process execution for assigned CPI Projects.

  • Close-resolve 10-12 standard projects per calendar year when fully effective.

  • Plan, coordinate, and ensure execution of all team activities.

  • Maintain and communicate project status and 6 sigma phase (DMAIC) completion targets; ensure required elements of each 6 Sigma phase are completed and properly documented.

  • Escalate obstacles to timely project execution to the project sponsor and CPI list manager.

  • Meet MTP, Earthmoving, and corporate CPI metrics.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Degree Requirement: bachelor’s degree in a technical curriculum is strongly preferred. A combination of education and demonstrate progressive experience is required.

  • Influencing: Strong influencing skills, capable of driving change and garnering support from stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Thorough understanding of engineering and/or manufacturing processes, enabling effective influence for complex projects.

  • Managing Multiple Projects: Proficient in managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet deadline and deliver results. Ability to juggle various projects with competing priorities, maintaining focus, and driving progress across all initiatives.

  • Active Learning: Recognizing the need for ongoing personal development, with the ability to assess one's strengths, limitations, and interests, and applying this understanding to enhance daily performance and self-improvement while meeting project goals and deadlines.

Top Candidates Will Have :

  • CPI Team Leader experience

  • Familiarity with Caterpillar corporate systems and information, including PSCRM/DSN, SIMS, RWA, SIS Web (all media types, notably PIP/PSP’s), PPRD, NPI, CPI, TIC/REDI, EDS, etc.

  • Component and/or system level design experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify solutions.

  • Strong focus on quality and customers.

  • Knowledge of NPI and/or engineering processes.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
