Position Summary
This is an academic year (9 month) position, with possible opportunities for summer teaching if desired. The Program seeks candidates whose teaching, service, or other experience has prepared them to contribute to creating inclusive learning spaces for a diverse group of students. The successful candidate will work with colleagues to develop, coordinate, and teach data science courses primarily for students in the MSDS program, joining a vibrant, diverse, and supportive group of faculty members focused on instructional excellence in data science. In addition to resources local to the MSDS program, Michigan State University provides an excellent environment for teaching innovation, including the highly-ranked Program in Mathematics Education and faculty groups in the Department of Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, and the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science, and Engineering.

Required Degree
Masters -Statistics, mathematics, computer science
Minimum Requirements
We seek candidates with
• A master's or doctoral degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field;
• A background in practical probability & statistics, machine learning models, and coding
• Knowledge of or experience with student-centered pedagogical methods;
• Experience with or a commitment to cultivating equitable and inclusive learning environments;
• Demonstrated experience with or commitment to learning and growing as an instructor;
• Experience using Python and/or R or other relevant languages either in teaching or to create statistical/machine learning models in data science and/or other applications.
Desired Qualifications
Desirable but not required are
• Experience teaching data science, mathematics, statistics and/or related fields, either with full responsibility for courses or as a teaching assistant;
• Practical experience working with data science models in an applied setting
• Experience in course development, particularly for data science, statistics, computer science, or mathematics
