Position Summary
The lab of Dr. Emily Josephs in the Department of Plant Biology at Michigan State University is hiring a research technician. The technician will be involved in multiple projects in plant evolutionary genetics working with the species Capsella bursa-pastoris (Shepherd's Purse) and Chamaecrista fasiculata (Partridge Pea). These projects will include greenhouse and growth chamber experiments to measure plant phenotypes and DNA extractions from frozen or dried leaf tissue, as well as data analysis. The technician will also be expected to participate in lab meetings, collaborate with other lab members, and be involved in presenting and writing up the results from their work. The technician will also be responsible for ordering equipment and lab organization.
Ideally the candidate could start in June 2025
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Plant Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Genetics or related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in plant biology, evolutionary biology, genetics or related field; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Previous research experience in plant biology, evolutionary biology, or another field. Experience doing plant experimental biology (rearing plants, measuring traits, managing data), doing DNA extraction or other benchwork, and/or conducting bioinformatic analyses.
