Position Summary

The research group led by Dr. Eran Andrechek in the Department of Physiology at Michigan State University is accepting applications for a full-time Research Technologist I position. The Andrechek Lab is interested in understanding the molecular basis of cancer. To achieve this goal, we use various technologies, including cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, and animal models. We seek a highly motivated individual who strongly desires to advance scientific projects to join our team.

The position's responsibilities will include research activities, routine lab tasks, maintenance of lab equipment, and administrative tasks, including inventory management and purchasing, such as:

  • 30% - Oversee laboratory needs and order materials, supplies, and equipment. Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • 35% - Coordinate with lab members to assist with experiments, including supervising and instructing students in basic lab techniques.
  • 20% - Perform experimental tests and assays, maintaining records and analyzing results for research projects, such as assisting in surgical procedures and administering injections to and caring for experimental animals. Prepare solutions and mixtures by measuring and mixing appropriate chemicals and compile test results for the future composition of reports, publications, and presentations by other researchers.
  • 10% - Assist with coordinating research operations. Act as a resource to lab volunteers regarding research projects and experiments. Provide necessary training to volunteers.
  • 5% - Assist with administration needs for safety, inspection, and compliance. Monitors and controls hazardous and other materials used in laboratory procedures. Other duties as assigned.

This position is well suited for recent graduates interested in a career in biotechnology, however, all qualified individuals are encouraged to apply. The starting salary is $40,164. This is a limited-term position funded for eighteen months from the hire date with a possible extension (based on current grant support) contingent on satisfactory performance and available funding. The duties to be performed by this position require in-person presence in East Lansing, MI, and they are not compatible with remote work. The position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
