College Alumni and Event Coordinator

Position Summary

As an integral member of the James Madison College (JMC) team, the College Alumni and Events Coordinator manages a plan of strategic and dynamic alumni activities and communications for the College’s diverse alumni to increase participation and deepen relationships and engagement. The position coordinates, designs, implements, and evaluates the alumni activities of the College with the goal of helping alumni to establish a lifelong relationship with their alma mater. This is accomplished by engaging alumni in activities and events; keeping them informed; involving alumni in college boards and programs; and providing services that keep alumni networked within the JMC as well as with their alumni peers. Additionally, this position is responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing, and monitoring of JMC events, in collaboration with JMC administration, faculty, staff, and students. This person will work with Case Hall (REHS), and other venues, on the logistics needed to successfully implement the college’s programs. The Project/Event Coordinator handles all Case Hall room bookings, updates the college’s event calendar, and makes arrangements for food/beverages needed for each event.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four- year college degree program in Business, Communication Arts, Marketing or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in higher education fundraising, event coordination, public speaking; or and equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Candidate would have 2 - 5 years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the planning a production of institutional events, contractor and vendor contract negotiations, developing event budget reports; working knowledge of the principles and practices of alumni engagement; constituent engagement, experience in customer-service environment; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with academic leaders, faculty, staff, alumni, students, donors, and volunteers; and organizational abilities; exceptional work ethic and extensive experience in collaboration; demonstrated success in working with high volume of constituents in key markets; strong organizational skills, focused and goal oriented with the ability to work both independently and as a team; experience in database, spreadsheet, word processing, presentation software, Outlook, donor database software; strong written and verbal communication skills; attendance required for occasional evenings, weekends, and travel; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Instructions

This role requires travel within the United States and occasional evening and weekend work but also offers a flexible hybrid/remote work schedule as agreed upon with the Finance Director.
