In Mondelez International Accounting & External Reporting (AER), we are a team of experts dedicated to ensuring absolute integrity and accuracy of our financial data and reporting, delivering results with speed and data that enables insights for Enterprise Value Creation.

The Sr. Director, AER is the regional controller for Mondelez North America (MNA). MNA is a reporting segment which generates $11 billion in revenues for Mondelez International, Inc., a Fortune 100 public company with leading global brands including Oreo , Chips Ahoy! and Tate’s cookies, Ritz , Wheat Thins and Triscuit crackers, Clif snack bars, and Cadbury , Milka and Toblerone chocolate. This leader manages a team of 17, including 4 direct reports. The role reports directly to SVP, Corporate Controller & Chief Accounting Officer for Mondelez International and also reports dotted line to SVP, Finance MNA (regional CFO).

The Sr. Director, AER has primary responsibility for the Financial Statements of the MNA business (including MNA Ventures businesses). This leader is responsible for accounting policy compliance for the North American region and ensuring that monthly, quarterly and annual close and reporting processes and financial reporting submissions for corporate consolidation are completed on a timely and accurate basis. They will also provide oversight for activities in accounting areas completed by Mondelēz Business Services (MBS) outsourced partners.

The qualified candidate must have a proven track record successfully leading high performing teams and must be an expert in US GAAP. This leader must communicate well and partner successfully within the global AER function and with other finance and business leaders across MNA. Demonstrated experience in process management and process improvement is also required. A strong background in enterprise financial systems is required, with experience in SAP (HFM) and S/4 Hana implementations a plus.

How you will contribute

You will:

  • Provide overall leadership for the MNA accounting team (general accounting, fixed assets/capital, lease accounting, US/Canada indirect tax) as well as outsourced business partners supporting MNA accounting processes.

  • Provide governance and leadership for all elements of the regional monthly accounting close and financial reporting processes. Ensure US GAAP and company policies are adhered to for all transactions.

  • Provide regional leadership and guidance on complex accounting areas, including acquisitions, divestitures, leases, derivatives and other unique transactions.

  • Partner with other finance and business leaders to ensure accounting and reporting policies are followed for cross-functional business areas and achieve enterprise goals.

  • Ensure regional compliance with our internal control framework and address accounting issues with both internal and external auditors. Ensure monthly and annual SOX requirements are met.

  • Ensure projects are completed according to agreed timelines.

  • Ensures monthly and annual SOX requirements are met for accounting processes.

  • Provide guidance and leadership for accounting process improvements, including working to ensure standardization of processes and adoption of best practices.

What you will bring

  • TECHNICAL EXPERTISE in accounting and external reporting, including strong understanding of US GAAP, and of close processes and financial reporting systems. Expertise in policy, controls and compliance design including SOX reporting. General knowledge of tax laws and indirect tax

  • BUSINESS ACUMEN and understanding of our business and finance beyond the accounting and external reporting scope. Big Four accounting firm experience preferred.

  • LEADERSHIP SKILLS including proven experience successfully leading large teams as well as in business partnering and skillfully communicating across a large global, public company. Experience working as a global finance leader managing global, cross-functional and business partner teams to drive timely and accurate results.

  • GROWTH/DIGITAL MINDSET and the ability to identify strategic opportunities and leverage technology to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

  • INTEGRITY and sound judgement in all decisions and interactions aligned with our values, policies, and external regulations

What extra ingredients you will bring:

  • Bachelor of Science and/or Business degree in Accounting or Finance required.

  • CPA is highly preferred.

  • 15 or more years of Finance management with extensive experience in accounting

  • 8 or more years of experience in team management is required.

  • Experience in the Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPGs) industry is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated background in general accounting and financial statement analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience in process management and process improvement.

  • Experience with financial systems, particularly SAP (HFM) and strong Excel skills, technical skills, problem solving, challenging assertive approach.

  • Need to be able to manage / analyze large amounts of complex data.

  • Ability to work with details/understand business implications.

  • Internal / External Audit experience

  • General Ledger / SAP knowledge / HFM knowledge

  • Strong team player who manages collaboratively with all stakeholders

  • Strong influencing and communication skills
