About the Application Development Architect 

The Application Development Architect will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and implementation of enterprise applications within ACL’s cloud infrastructure. This role focuses on creating scalable, secure, and efficient applications that meet the needs of the organization while adhering to federal compliance and security standards. The architect will work closely with project managers, system owners, and other stakeholders to ensure that all development activities are aligned with the strategic goals of ACL and comply with architectural and security guidelines.  

In addition to technical leadership, the Application Development Architect will play a key role in managing the development lifecycle, including the planning and execution of sprints, code reviews, and integration of new technologies. This position requires a deep understanding of modern programming languages, cloud services, and development frameworks. The architect will also be responsible for continuous improvement of development processes and ensuring that all applications are designed with security and accessibility in mind.  

The ideal candidate for the Application Development Architect role is an experienced professional with over 10 years in application development and architecture, particularly within enterprise cloud environments. They should possess a strong technical background in modern programming languages (C#, Java, .Net, JavaScript, Node.js, React) and development frameworks, along with proficiency in cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure and FedRAMP compliance. The Application Development Architect will ensure the development of scalable, secure, and efficient applications aligned with ACL’s strategic goals and compliance standards, contributing to continuous improvement in development processes. 

Key Responsibilities Include: 

  • Oversee the design and development of enterprise applications, prototypes, and proof of concepts.  

  • Manage sprints, resources, and timelines for all development activities.  

  • Ensure compliance with architecture and security guidelines and work towards continuous development process and accreditation.  

  • Build in code reviews, security compliance, and accessibility into the development process.  

  • Use identified tools for source control, task management, sprint management, repositories, and communication.  

  • Address software enhancements and lifecycle updates to maintain operational capability.  

  • Provide guidance on when enhancements require the development of a new application framework.  

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system technical specifications, diagrams, and API management.  

  • Implement and manage secure coding practices as directed by relevant standards and guidelines.  

  • Work with cybersecurity teams to ensure all privacy and security requirements and documentation are complete.  

  • Develop cost estimates, migration plans, and provide engineering support for application development and integration projects.  

What you bring to the table: 

  • 10 years of experience in Application Development and Architecture.  

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.  

  • Proven experience as an Application Development Architect or in a similar role within an enterprise cloud environment.  

  • Strong understanding of modern programming languages, development frameworks, and IDEs, including C#, Java, .Net, JavaScript, Node.js, React, Full Stack, Eclipse, Visual Studio, and others.  

  • Experience with Low/No Code technologies such as Power Platform, Salesforce, Appian, and ServiceNow.  

  • Experience with methodologies 12 Factor App, Microservices, Serverless Compute, Domain-Driven Desing, Test-Driven Design, and Design Patterns such as Saga and Circuit-Breaker.  

  • Experience with Application Security including Authentication/Authorization, Input Validation, Error Handling and Logging, Cache Control, and Interface Security.  

  • Experience with cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure, and understanding of FedRAMP compliance.  

  • Proficiency in managing development tools such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, and other similar platforms.  

  • Excellent leadership and project management skills.  

  • Strong understanding of secure coding practices and software development lifecycle (SDLC).  

  • Experience with database management, including SQL, NoSQL, and other database technologies.  

BCT offers a competitive total compensation package that, for this position includes a base annual salary range of $145,000 - $155,000 (based on qualifications), along with a generous benefits package.  BCT’s benefits include heavily subsidized medical, dental and vision coverage, fully vested 401k plan with company match, company paid life and disability insurance plans, a strong work-life balance/time-off structure. 
 
This is a remote position, located in any of the fifty United States or Washington, DC.
