Eversource Energy Manager-System Operations Support (Hybrid) in East Berlin, Connecticut

This is a hybrid role.  The first three months arefulltimein the office.

Plans, schedules, and manages the engineering and technical resources that develop and maintain the static and dynamic models associated with the Energy Management Systems (EMS) and the combined Transmission and Distribution System Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems in support of real time CONVEX consistent with NERC, NPCC, ISO-NE and any future RTO/ITC policies and procedures. Plans, schedules, and manages the engineering and technical resources that develop and maintain the static and dynamic models associated with the Energy Management System (EMS) and the combined Transmission and Distribution System Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems in support of real time Connecticut System Operations Control Center (SOC) consistent with Eversource process and procedures and state regulatory policies and procedures. Develop and update procedures to track and prioritize tools development for System Operations.

Provides technical leadership, recognized as having technical expertise, elicits ideas for the solution of unique and/or complex engineering problems, and is accountable for major technical recommendations. Directs and manages supervisors, engineers, technicians, and consultants and provides guidance as appropriate to other Transmission Planning and Distribution Project Teams. Ensures participation and understanding of project economics, the ISO generation markets and the ISO generation pricing and their effects on the Eversource Transmission Business and its customers. Ensures preparation of documents/testimony, written responses, and presentations and testimony for local, state and regulatory requirements and proceedings for all jurisdictions.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain reliable, accurate, and current models for the CONVEX Energy Management System.
  • Maintain reliable, accurate, and current Real Time Contingency models for CONVEX Operations.
  • Maintain reliable, accurate, and current State Estimator models for CONVEX Operations.
  • Develop seasonal models to allow CONVEX Operations to analyze system performance during normal and abnormal dispatch and recognized and severe transmission outage conditions.
  • Support the development and maintenance of concise, clear, and up-to-date Transmission Operating Guidelines in consultation with ISO NE for use by CONVEX/ISO NE Operations as applicable.
  • Maintain contingency models for planned and unscheduled transmission and generation outages.
  • Coordinate with IT management and technical personnel the replacement, upgrade, and maintenance of EMS, SCADA, and related computer/control systems.
  • Support the development of technical material and simulations for the training of CONVEX Operating personnel on new and existing real time and contingency programs and operating guidelines.
  • Build relationships to enable data sharing and timely information updates
  • Provide and evaluate recommendations for telemetry communications architectures and implementations.
  • Manage the coordination with ISO-NE and adjacent security and control areas to ensure accurate system representations.
  • Coordinate the development, testing, and maintenance of software systems and tools to track and retain critical system values to allow post analysis of real time system conditions.
  • Manage the development and preparation of manpower, expense, and capital budgets for organization
  • Monitor the expense and capital budgets of the CONVEX Operations Support organization.
  • Establish annual goals, monitor, and evaluate the performance of CONVEX Operations Support personnel. Conduct biannual employee performance reviews.
  • Recommend prioritized training programs for CONVEX Operational Support personnel.
  • Reliable, accurate, and timely models and tools for the CONVEX Energy Management System.
  • Reliable, accurate, and timely Real Time Contingency models and tools for CONVEX Operations.
  • Reliable, accurate, and timely State Estimator models and tools for CONVEX Operations.
  • Provide seasonal analysis models and tools for CONVEX Operations.
  • Provide technical materials and simulations necessary for CONVEX personnel training.
  • Develop annual goals for CONVEX Operations Support.
  • Conduct CONVEX Operations Support employee biannual performance reviews.
  • Maintain CONVEX Operations Support capital and expense expenditures within budget and cash flow parameters.
  • Represent CONVEX on various NERC, NPCC, NEPOOL/RTO task forces and committees
  • Support the implementation of new control room technologies
  • Provide input into the technology roadmap for real time systems

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

Thorough knowledge of bulk power system operation. Thorough knowledge of real time systems applications and programming. Knowledge of transmission Energy Management Systems and SCADA systems.

Education:

Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Electric Power Systems preferred), Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent degree.

Experience :

Ten years of operating experience at a Security/Control Area Operations Center, Transmission Planning, Transmission Line/Substation Engineering, Substation Construction/Test/Maintenance or a combination of the above. Experience as a representative to other organizations is also preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
