General Responsibilities:

The Quality Control Lab Technician tests and inspects products at various stages of the production process, while compiling and evaluating statistical data to determine and maintain the quality and reliability of products. The position receives guidance with respect to general objectives. In the majority of tasks and projects assigned, the incumbent determines methods, work sequence, scheduling, and how to achieve objectives of assignments while operating within specific policy guidelines. Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks assigned. Typical work hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm. Frequent over time is required in this position. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) may be required. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed. Working Conditions:

  • Normal work hours are hours Monday through Friday 7am to 5pm.

  • Weekend work may be required depending on the contract.

  • Well-lit, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation.

  • Must be able and ready to work in all weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.)

  • Must also be able to tolerate a loud work environment.

Required Skills

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to read and interpret documents, in English, such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization in English.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; No experience required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required

  • Ability to obtain ACI Level preferred

  • Ability to obtain NCDOT Concrete QC Tech preferred

  • Ability to obtain NC DOT Concrete Batch Tech preferred

  • Ability to obtain NC DOT Asphalt level I or level II preferred

  • Ability to obtain NCDOT Aggregate sampling and testing QC Tech preferred

  • Ability to achieve NCDOT, VDOT and other DOT certification for various product lines
