Merck Director- HPV Manufacturing Automation (Hybrid) in Durham, North Carolina

Job Description

As the Vaccine Automation Director, you will be the primary point of contact for the HPV IPT for all digital implementations, support, and administrative activities.

You will manage a team of managers that support the HPV Fermentation, Purification, Alum, Formulation, and Sterile Supply facilities at the Durham site.

You will be the liaison between above site DMO and the site clients.

The Vaccine Automation Director works with the HPV IPT, Supply Chain, and Technical Operations site leads and their staff to identify and define business issues, build business cases, and ensure continuity of service for all systems support manufacturing activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing multi-level team of automation engineers, providing direction, priorities, feedback, and formal reviews.

  • Providing lead automation support for various manufacturing projects and systems such as Programmable Logic Controllers, Distributed Control Systems and Original Equipment Manufacturer platforms.

  • Initiate and lead collaboration within the Operations, Quality and Technical organizations to resolve complex problems and deliver efficient solutions, while maintaining the automation systems in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Principles (cGMPs).

  • Providing leadership and strategic direction for automation for the near- and long-term priorities within the integrated process team and works for alignment across the HPV franchise. Representing digital manufacturing in vaccine roadmap and prioritization processes.

  • Must be willing to work closely with various site and central groups in order to ensure control systems are designed, implemented and maintained in a manner to ensure manufacturing requirements are met

Education:

  • Bachelors or Master of Science in Engineering, Science, Information Technology, or other relevant discipline.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a production regulated industry (part or all of the years providing manufacturing automation services)

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a GMP manufacturing related role and direct experience with SDLC and change controlsExperience with GAMP and Data Integrity Principles (ALCOA) and their practical implementation.

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Demonstrated leadership in achieving shared objectives in a matrix organization.

  • Demonstrated capability in leadership of projects and teams

  • Above 5 years' experience leading personnel in teams or projects (can be direct or indirect reporting)

  • Experience presenting to internal and external regulatory inspectors

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with setting and communicating a strategic direction

  • Above 3 years' experience managing employees in a direct role.

  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other Continuous Improvement methodologies and development of standard work.

  • Experience with Agile or Project Management certification
