UMD Intercollegiate Athletics is searching for a Head Women's Softball Coach. The incumbent is responsible for all aspects of instruction and the management of a comprehensive NCAA Division II Women's Softball Program. Scope of Position This incumbent will develop and maintain a competitive Division II softball program in a manner compatible with the department and University philosophy, and in compliance with NCAA and NSIC rules and regulations. They will supervise and evaluate the assistant coaches and staff, plan and oversee team practices, game preparations and scouting of opponents. They will be responsible for the oversight and monitoring of academic progress of student athletes and serve as an integral part of achieving fundraising, budget and community service goals. They will support the UMD Athletics mission of excellence in the Classroom, Community and Competition, while furthering the strategic plan of UMD. Duties/Responsibilities Support student-athletes by fostering a positive team culture and supporting mental wellness. Maintain a highly competitive and successful Division II Women's Softball Program developed in a manner compatible with the department and University philosophy, and in compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations. Supervise, evaluate, and make recommendations to team coaching staff and athletes, and develop plans for practices and competitions. Prepare budget recommendations. Participate in special events such as fundraisers and public relations activities. Keep informed of and adhere to all NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations. Monitor athlete's academic progress in cooperation with the Director of Academic Support and Student-Athlete Development. Establish team expectations. Consistently engage with the media. Encourage team participation in volunteer activities and community engagement activities Organize and implement an effective recruiting plan. Advise the Director of Athletics on important team issues and operations and recommend actions. Evaluate and recruit qualified prospective student-athletes to UMD whose athletic skills and academic abilities make them good candidates for UMD. Support the UMD Department of Athletics mission of excellence in the Classroom, Community and Competition, while furthering the University's strategic plan, and other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications BA/BS degree required. Prior collegiate coaching and recruiting experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to monitor academic progress of student athletes. At least three years of combined progressive experience as Head/Assistant Coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA or Junior College level. Experience managing an athletics budget.
