The Alumni Relations Associate for the Office of Alumni Relations reports to the Director of Alumni Relations. The Alumni Associate works with the Alumni Relations team to forge strong relationships and active partnerships between the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) and its 70,000+ alumni. Emphasis on engaging alumni in programs, projects, and events with outcomes tied to enhanced connections between alumni, students, and UMD. Develop strategies and compelling options for alumni and priority affinity groups. Responsible for creating Alumni Relations communications including the newsletter, social media, web content, and email. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Programming & Projects (30%) Develop Alumni Relations programs with outcomes tied to alumni participation, impact on student experiences, and alignment with university goals. Develop new programs for Alumni Relations in collaboration with UMD campus partners. Recruit and manage volunteers, record appropriate alumni information in DMS, refer prospects to Development staff when necessary. Travel and work evenings and weekends as needed. Support Advancement programs and projects as needed. Event Management (30%) Develop reunions for affinity groups. When appropriate, build sustainable models for recurring reunions. Develop new social events with outcomes tied to alumni engagement. Develop qualitative and quantitative performance metrics for alumni programs and events including the use of data from social media, website traffic, and email. Analyze data and use information to make recommendations on whether programs and events should be continued, changed, improved, etc. Coordinate and expand existing alumni events (e.g. Homecoming, Bulldogs on the Block, and Grad Party). Provide support for Advancement events as needed. Communications (30%) Develop a comprehensive communications plan for Alumni Relations. Develop goals related to email open rates, clicks, shares, and comments. Use these communications outlets to drive attendance at events and recruit volunteers. Manage social media accounts. Supervise student communications interns. Create, edit, and publish content on the website, e-newsletter, and social media for Alumni Relations and Advancement. Design promotional graphics for events and programs. Administrative (10%) Assist in managing the Alumni Relations annual budget. Represent Alumni Relations in vendor negotiations: research sites, caterers, speakers, entertainment, etc. for programs and events. Based on needs and cost analysis, determine which vendors to use. Qualifications MINIMUM/ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS degree, or a combination of education and experience equal to 4 years. Experience with word processing. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (SELECTION CRITERIA): Experience with MS Excel or other spreadsheet software Previous experience in alumni relations or a closely related field to include experience as a volunteer or leading volunteers. Previous marketing, management and program development/event management experience. Demonstrated strong attention to detail. Established self-motivation and strong personal commitment to the organization's mission. Substantiated experience and skills related to social media strategizing and implementation. Demonstrated commitment to working with and supporting individuals and groups from a variety of backgrounds, communities, and cultures.
