These staff MUST reside in Duluth and be able to ride the bus to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus on Monday mornings, reside on the UMTC campus for the week, and ride the bus back to Duluth on Fridays. They will take part in the Week 6 field trip to Wisconsin and Illinois. The TRIO Upward Bound Vision Quest program (UBVQ) serves 135 students in grades 9-12 at Edison, Roosevelt, South, and Wellstone International High Schools in Minneapolis, and Denfeld High School in Duluth. Our program participants are motivated to successfully complete high school and attend college following their high school graduation. The goal of the annual Upward Bound Vision Quest Summer Program is to provide participants with a college-going experience. Our program is seeking residential staff to supervise and chaperone students during the 2024 Summer Program. Our 2024 Summer Program will run from June 24 - August 2, 2024. Staff training will be during the week of June 10, 2024 and June 17, 2024. Duluth residential Staff need to be available for staff training and Week 1 through Week 6 of the 2024 Summer Program, except the week of July 4 (see the program schedule below for more details). Responsibilities: Ride the bus from Duluth on Mondays, and back to Duluth on Fridays with Upward Bound students during the residential weeks listed below. Reside overnight on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus to supervise, guide, mentor, discipline, and chaperone Upward Bound Summer Program participants. Chaperone students on various field trips during the evening hours of the Summer Program. Chaperone students during breakfast and dinner in the residence hall and enforce the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)'s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) during meals. Supervision of students and monitor halls late night and early morning duty as assigned. Develop and lead a fun and engaging elective course for UBVQ participants. Assist the UBVQ Residence Director in developing and supervising weekly "Dorm Night" activities in the evenings. Maintain tracking and documentation of student behavior and attendance daily. Prepare reports on student behavior and other incidents on a regular basis. Participate in weekly staff meetings with the UBVQ Residence Director and UBVQ Director. Build rapport and display sensitivity towards high school students and staff from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Participate and complete mandatory staff training in June 2024. Pay Rate: $21.00/hour Residential Staff can expect to work 30-35 hours per week during the Summer Program. A single dormitory room on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus and daily meals during the residential weeks of the UBVQ Summer Program are provided for all Residential Staff during the 5-week residential portion of the Summer Program. 2024 UBVQ Summer Program Schedule: June 13, June 20, June 21 - Summer Staff Training (anticipated dates) June 24-28: Week 1 July 1-July 3: Week 2 Virtual Programming - Residential Staff are not required to work this week July 8-12: Week 3 July 15-19: Week 4 July 22-26: Week 5 July 29-August 2: Week 6 Field Trip to Wisconsin and Illinois Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma/GED and one year general office/clerical experience. Training/education may substitute for some of the experience. Experience working with high school students from various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Experience leading a group of students. Experience and/or comfort with giving directions to students and chaperoning students on field trips. Able to attend mandatory summer staff training starting the week of June 10, 2024. Full availability to work evening and early morning hours from June 24-July 26, 2024. Strong communicat on skills, both in person and through various mediums of technology (e-mail, text, etc.). Per University of Minnesota Safety of Minors policy, applicants must be at least 20 years old upon hiring. Preferred Qualifications: Valid driver's license and willingness to operate a University vehicle. Familiarity and/or experience with the federal TRIO programs. Bilingual in Somali or Spanish and experience with language interpretation.
