The Plumber will work under direction of shop supervisor assemble install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations; inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe

Responsibilities

  • Support the project Safety Plan through personal involvement in all aspects of safety, including training and attention to the adherence to safety requirements pertaining to particular trades or skills.

  • This position may be designated as Mission Critical as required by the company to meet contract requirements.

  • This position may be part of an emergency management/response team as required by the company to meet contract requirements.

  • Must wear and use all required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, hardhat, etc.

  • Locate and mark position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob, cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools, cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine.

  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic, using hand tools and power tools. Joins pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and calks joints. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.

  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.

  • Make necessary repairs replace and maintain Fire Hydrants as needed. Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains. Maintain, repair, test, and replace backflow & cross-connection preventer devices IAW state, government, and EPA criteria and maintain current certifications.

  • Accomplish work in compliance with government regulations and all building codes.

  • Identify material requirement listing for work in government-acceptable format.

  • Assist in maintaining shop inventory.

  • Maintain required readings, records, and documentation.

  • Research and identify material.

  • Operate general and special purpose vehicles including rodding machines.

  • Operate equipment, machinery, and test equipment related to plumbing work.

  • Accomplish work as identified from blueprints, drawings, models, schematics, or verbal instructions, using a variety of measuring instruments, making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work.

  • Perform safe work practices, procedures, and adhere to occupational health standards.

  • On-call is required.

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in installation, repair, servicing of plumbing / LP Gas

  • LP Gas certification is Preferred

  • Journeyman or Master Plumber Preferred

  • Possess a valid State Driver’s License and be deemed insurable under company policy

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

  • Proficient in use of plumbing hand tools, portable power tools, gauges, equipment, and vehicles.

  • Knowledgeable in national, government, and state plumbing standards and codes

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
