POSITION TITLE:
Staff Accountant/Budget Coordinator GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS: Recruited By: Chief Financial Officer Recommended for Appointment By: Chief Human Resources Officer Chief Financial Officer Director of Finance WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Type of Authority: Staff Reports To: Chief Financial Officer Consults With: Forum Staff, Instructional Facilitators, Director of Finance, Chief Financial Officer, Building and Department Administrators and Secretaries, District Staff Members and Company Representatives and Agents BASIC FUNCTION: Assist the Business Department in many roles. Plays major roles in: 1) preparing, adjusting, and maintaining the District line item budget; 2) maintaining and updating the District fixed asset database; and 3) preparation of District bank reconciliations. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Preparing, adjusting, and maintaining the District line item budget
Prepare the District bank reconciliations
Work closely with the Director of Finance on multiple tasks
Assist the quarterly Fund 33 and Fund 36 Recap and Planning reports
Provide backup on approval of purchase orders and journal entries
Maintain District Fixed Assets
Work on fiscal year-end reports
Produce budget reports on monthly quarterly and annual basis
Maintain a chart of accounts which includes adding new accounts when necessary
Calculate all salary and benefit charges for annual budget purposes and provides data for entry for all budget code items
Coordinate maximum budget figures for project grants with Forum staff and Instructional Facilitators
Assist with Accounts Payable and Account Receivable duties when necessary
Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting or significant related work experience REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND SKILL Knowledge of the principles of governmental budgetary accounting and the application of those principles to budget preparation, input, control, monitoring and accountability Knowledge of the principles of financial accounting and the application of those principles to school accounting systems and the reconciliation of school and bank records Knowledge of computer operating systems, computer equipment and other Business Office operating machines and equipment Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, staff members and relationships with supervisors, staff members and representatives of other departments and buildings Ability to perform administrative detail with a high degree of independence including the maintenance of records and reports Ability to plan, organize, direct and supervise, if necessary, the work of other employees and clerical subordinates Ability to get along with others, be part of a team and be strong in interpersonal skills Ability to perform routine and other detailed tasks with a high degree of speed and accuracy and to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality about District matters Ability to follow through on items when required and to exercise mature and responsible judgement at all times Ability to understand the basic principles of school accounting and to work with other staff members in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required
