Microsoft Corporation Software Engineering Manager - Observability in Dublin, Ireland

Microsoft Azure Edge + Platform (E+P) is a globally distributed team of engineers, architects, program managers, product managers, business program managers, business administrators, user experience researchers and designers who are responsible for the platform for Microsoft and for delivering Microsoft’s edge vision.

We create the most reliable and trustworthy OS and platform services to empower Microsoft and our customers to achieve more. We unlock the next wave of opportunity at the edge through an at-scale ecosystem driving widespread adoption of our Microsoft cloud services.

AIOps Health Platform is a large-scale cloud service used by both internal Microsoft services and external customers. The platform powers Azure Monitor and Azure Resource Health for Azure customers. It processes billions of requests per day and creates millions of alerts per month for internal and external customers.

We are also responsible for monitoring health of Microsoft services. As we enter the era of AIOps, our goal is use AI to help customers achieve more by doing less by enabling services to automatically predict, prevent, detect, diagnose, and mitigate service health issues with high confidence.

Some of the capabilities that we provide our customers:

  • Service Health models that can scale to largest services in Microsoft - from Compute to Storage.

  • Rich, guided and insightful monitoring that accommodates the needs for all customers from small to large, from sparse data to millions of data points, from simple to complex to AI-based monitoring solutions.

  • Enriched incidents/alerts that reduce Time To Detect and Time To Mitigate for services and ease the life of an On-Call engineer by putting information in their hands.

Responsibilities

  • Managment experience as you will be leading a team.

  • Research and contribute to best practices in service development and delivery. Tackle complex technical challenges with a hands-on approach and facilitate the resolution of issues. Drive clarity as needed in areas where there is ambiguity.

  • Responsible for managing control plane, SDKs and agents for our services spanning across all offerings for the platform.

  • Strategic investments to enable new plus existing services to be continuously compliant and support 4 9s availability.

  • Align towards our AIOps vision with investments in automatic configuration management for services pushing us towards the vision of zero to low touch operations required for continuous monitoring of services of our customers. Partner with ML teams in our organization towards integrations to support our vision.

  • Join the incident management team to facilitate developer engagement and support the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) in resolving incidents that impact customers.

  • Foster a culture of inclusivity and disciplined software engineering practices to deliver business value, guided by data.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience.

  • Managment experience .

  • Experience with a track record of delivering results by removing roadblocks and generating momentum in the team.

  • Years of software development experience with cloud based services.

  • Working across multipule Geo's and teams in the US, India and Dublin

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing high-scale distributed services, including issue analysis and customer engagement for root cause identification and resolution.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or equivalents.

  • Proven track record in the creation, development, deployment, and maintenance of online services.

  • Background in .NET development or constructing applications using Service Fabric.

  • Practical experience in building and managing REST microservices.

  • Knowledge of API protocols including REST and gRPC.
