Aston Carter HR Benefits Specialist in Downey, California

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Benefits Specialist to manage our 401k program, enrollments, reports, and audits. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with government regulations and providing exceptional service to our employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and evaluate employee benefit plans and vendors to identify optimal options.

  • Negotiate with brokers to secure the best plans and rates.

  • Serve as the primary contact for plan vendors, third-party administrators, and brokers.

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting and fees.

  • Handle daily benefit processing, including enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, and disability claims.

  • Manage 401k audits and compliance testing.

  • Generate weekly 401k enrollment reports for new hires.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in HRIS systems and benefits databases.

  • Evaluate and make judgments on proposals (RFPs).

  • Understand benefits contract language and stay informed about federal and state regulations (e.g., ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, Medicare, Social Security).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an HR role focused on benefits.

  • Proficiency in compiling 401k audits and reports.

  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations governing benefits plans (FMLA/LOA).

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Experience engaging with TPAs and auditing firms.
