Fair Food Network Senior Grant Accountant in Detroit, Michigan

FFN is seeking an experienced professional to join us as our Sr. Grant Accountant who will be responsible for maintaining financial, accounting and grant support services in order to meet the needs of the organization and its donors.  This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate that values improvement and efficiency to bring their skills and experience to a savvy, growing nonprofit organization.

This position is responsible for providing post-award grant financial administration and related accounting duties, and will focus heavily on budgeting, compliance, reporting and variance analysis functions.  The Sr. Grant Accountant will report to the Associate Director of Finance and will work closely with the VP of Finance, program and development teams. 

Fair Food Network is headquartered in Detroit.  This is a hybrid position with an expectation to work in the downtown Detroit office a minimum of 2 days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform post-grant award financial functions, including invoicing, financial reporting, budget reconciliations, re-budgeting, and grant closeout functions.
    • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports to funders as required
    • Manage and process reimbursement program related grant requests, including generating invoices for allocated costs, verifying appropriate documentation and approvals, tracking outstanding accounts receivable.
    • Manage new grant commitment notifications, recording receivables and tracking payments in financial accounting system and donor management system as necessary
    • Ensure grant record/accounts receivable alignment between financial accounting system and donor management system
    • Maintain grant budgets and program/department segmentation in financial budgeting and planning system
  • Assist Associate Director of Finance with grant pre-award financial functions, including budget development and revenue analysis, in support of Development and Program needs.
  • Prepare, review and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports by program and functional area for internal management purposes
  • Review and approve accounts payable transactions (invoices & expense reports), ensuring costs are allocated in alignment with available funding sources
  • Assist with the maintenance of the financial accounting ERP, Budgeting & Planning, CRM and Invoice/Expense processing systems (NetSuite, Salesforce, Concur).

What You'll Need

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct financial reporting experience within a nonprofit organization or relevant education in business, finance, accounting or related field.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and summarize financial records for accuracy and conformance to procedures, rules and regulations
  • Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial managers
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, experience with arrays and/or pivot tables strongly desired
  • Experience working with and maintaining standard accounting ERP, Budgeting and CRM systems (NetSuite, Salesforce, Concur preferred)
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and analytical skills; including attention to detail and follow through
  • Ability to be unflappable in the face of competing deadlines, projects and priorities
  • A collaborative style and ability to serve with a team orientation
  • Ability to work independently
