Essential functions (job duties):

Job Purpose

The Communications Manager captures and communicates department vision, metrics for success, faculty projects, corporate needs and other information related to university corporate engagement. This role will create communication materials for internal and external audiences, support the development of communication strategies, track and evaluate related data, and produce reports and promotional material to establish the OPEN Wayne brand and support overall corporate engagement. Working closely with Corporate Engagement Officers, this role will communicate the value of OPEN Wayne; a new, highly accessible point of entry to a broad range of university assets, including its talent pipeline, research engine, physical footprint, faculty, and other resources. This position reports to the Director, OPEN Wayne.

Essential Functions

Utilize written formats (proposals, one-pagers, reports, letters, sponsorship documents) to develop a broad range of time sensitive compelling, and accurate communications in collaboration with internal colleagues (this may include team members of OPEN Wayne, Corporate Engagement, or faculty). Act as a liaison with the Office of Economic Development/Marketing & Communications team to produce marketing deliverables in a variety of formats in alignment with brand standards.

In collaboration with leaders, develop and execute messaging strategies that align with department goals; contextualize value; and communicate successes, opportunities, and vision. Regularly engage with Corporate Relations Officers to maintain awareness of corporate partner portfolios in support of communication strategy development. Utilize department metrics and reports to inform communications strategy development and implementation.

Maintain awareness of industry trends and package them with relevant information for OPEN Wayne and Corporate Engagement teams to provide insights and context for strategy and decision-making. Assist in the planning and creation of communication materials for meetings and events with corporations, including but not limited to, visits to campus for tours, meetings, and social gatherings, as well as travel to external offices for meetings and presentations.

Use relationship-building to identify projects across campus that are relevant to corporate community; compile a weekly report of programs, events, and initiatives.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

WORK CONTEXT

Job Reports to: Director.

Customer Accountability: Interfaces with customers outside the S/C/D.

Freedom to Act: Subject to regular review by supervisor.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor's degree

Bachelor's Degree in from an accredited University in Business, Public Administration, Development, Marketing, Communications, Project Management, or related field. Master's Degree preferred.

Experience

Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)

Experience developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives.

Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Marketing & Communication Skills:Mastery of communication, both written and verbal. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a variety of formats and settings (i.e., presentations, reports, correspondence, marketing collateral, etc.). Ability to adapt style and content for various audiences. Possesses a working knowledge of tools and formats relevant to the marketing and communications field (i.e., digital graphics production, press releases, annual reports, communication strategy, AP style, etc.).

Project Management + Results Orientation:Excellent organization and time management skills. Ability to shift priorities and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously – completing projects on time and within budget. Demonstration of strong skills and effectiveness in executing marketing and communication activities. Ability to prioritize team timelines and needs with expediency and accuracy. Working knowledge of databases, Microsoft Office Suite, program budgets.

Collaboration:Ability to navigate large institutions with multiple stakeholders. Ability to work effectively with colleagues to accomplish goals. Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Ability to work independently and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to humbly receive feedback and revise accordingly.

Customer Focus:Exemplary customer service. Dedicated to maintaining awareness of university programs, services, and opportunities to enable effective marketing and communication tactics for a variety of audiences. Consistently solicits and applies customer feedback (internal and external). Knowledge of university/industry partnerships including corporate trends.
