Job Description

The Iowa Department of Revenue’s Alcohol & Tax Operations Division is seeking interns forSpring 2025to assist in the Taxpayer Services section of the Revenue Operations team.

The Revenue Operations team handles the receipt of all paper tax returns and documents, oversees the customer service desk, and administers the Department’s taxpayer services call center.

A typical day for an intern can include any of the following:

• Take inbound phone calls from taxpayers and answer simple inquiries.

• Verify authorization before discussing confidential tax information.

• Determine the level of technical or system assistance needed and take appropriate steps to resolve simple inquiries, and escalate more complex inquiries to a Taxpayer Service Specialist, or take down information for a callback.

• Potential to work on additional projects as assigned.

• Learn more about the various roles in the Department to include inter-departmental connections and processes.

Hours:

Part-time during semester approximately 12-16 hours per week.

Full-time during summer or semester break approximately 40 hours per week.

Location:

Interns may be required to attend onboarding and initial training at the Hoover State Office Building. Following the training period, remote work is an option if specific qualifications are met.

This is a non-merit internship position with the Iowa Department of Revenue. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants for positions in this class must be currently enrolled students in a degree program at an accredited educational institution, as determined by the Iowa Department of Administrative Services – Human Resources Enterprise.
