About the Role:

The Consumption Billing Manager is responsible for the comprehensive oversight and technical management of consumption-based billing systems, ensuring accurate, scalable, and timely invoicing based on customer usage. This role is pivotal in driving the successful delivery of complex, usage-based billing projects, requiring close collaboration with Finance, Product, Engineering, and Go-To-Market (GTM) teams. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in billing system architecture, integration, and data management, coupled with strong project management capabilities to deliver seamless, automated billing operations.

This role also requires excellent communication skills across all organizational levels and offers the opportunity to apply creativity and problem-solving while contributing to Confluent’s growth.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage Consumption Billing Systems: Oversee the configuration, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of consumption-based billing platforms, ensuring scalability and reliability.

  • Usage-Based Billing Projects: Lead and deliver projects focused on billing systems for usage-based models. Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, and Finance teams to define system requirements, ensure accurate data collection, and facilitate smooth project delivery.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Act as a liaison between Product, Engineering, Finance, and Go-To-Market (GTM) teams to ensure that billing systems align with product offerings and business goals.

  • Data Accuracy & Reporting: Monitor and ensure data integrity for usage metrics that feed into billing systems. Analyze usage data and work with Finance to generate accurate invoices. Identify and resolve discrepancies and billing issues.

  • Billing Compliance & Controls: Ensure compliance with all SOX controls and company policies related to billing. Implement proper controls to safeguard billing integrity.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve billing processes and systems, driving automation and reducing manual errors. Work with stakeholders to implement these improvements.

  • Customer Support: Work closely with customer-facing teams to address any billing-related inquiries or escalations, ensuring prompt resolution of billing issues.

  • Project Management: Lead and manage projects from initiation through implementation, including timelines, deliverables, risk management, and stakeholder communication.

What You Will Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in billing management, particularly in consumption or usage-based billing.

  • Hands on experience with consumption billing platform like Metronome, Zuora of similar platforms is mandatory

  • Experience with data analytics tools and SQL is essential

  • Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Finance, and Go-To-Market teams.

  • Strong understanding of billing systems, processes, and data integrity requirements.

  • Proficiency in project management, including the ability to manage timelines, stakeholders, and complex project scopes.

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret and manage large sets of data.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a customer-first mindset.

This position has an annual estimated salary of $163,170- $191,745, an annual bonus, and a competitive equity package.
