Principal Financial Group Sr Data & Analytics Consultant in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for a Sr Data & Analytics Consultant to join our Portfolio and Program Management team within the IT Business Management area. You’ll serve as a consultant, analyst and partner with portfolio managers, data teams, and enterprise stakeholders to inspect, cleanse, transform, and model data to discover useful insights. These efforts will help guide decision-making to improve productivity, efficiency, and resource allocation to ensure portfolio alignment with enterprise strategy. This includes portfolio data, reporting and analysis related to the following: clear priorities, visible managed dependencies, and effective trade-off decisions required to optimize business outcomes within resource constraints.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Develop, implement, and improve portfolio data standards, inputs, and outputs across the SPM (Strategic Portfolio Management) function (ex: Jira Structure, Key Portfolio Priorities (KPP))

  • Identify requirements, partnering PoC/Pilot activities, testing / utilization, gather feedback, providing education to SPMs (Strategic Portfolio Management) and/or business partners

  • Orchestrate portfolio administration and reporting to ensure roadmaps and scorecards accurately reflect work progress, interdependencies and interface with other departmental functions to present a consistent, comprehensive portfolio view

  • Support portfolio managers and PMT (Portfolio Mgmt. Team) leaders with an understanding of the diverse needs of each to help them accomplish organization goals

  • Schedule, attend, manage intake / backlog, identify trends, improvement opportunities, partner, and coordinate change management / communications

  • Ensure alignment to BU (business units) and Enterprise strategic priorities and objectives and the achievement of strategic outcomes. Partner to deliver results that advance strategic outcomes

  • Work alongside data science teams to provide guidance as they work on modeling and advanced analytics through data querying, preparation, and manipulation

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's Degree with a preference in a technical, business administration, analytical field or equivalent

  • 5+ years of demonstrating progressive responsibility for strategic initiatives, integration, stakeholder alignment, complex decision making, analytics or equivalent experience preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of business operations, values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions, and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.

  • Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, planning, and decision-making skills

  • Ability to partner and build relationships with people at all levels, including Senior Leaders and outside consultants and vendors to execute effectively in matrix management environment

  • Developing and implementing new products, processes, standards or operational plans that will have impact on the achievement of functional results

  • Results oriented and able to adapt to deal with ambiguous situations to cultivate potential options, determine and lead the path forward and manage corresponding expectations

  • Must have strong strategic and systems thinking, growth mindset, and business acumen coupled with an understanding of information technology/applications to identify opportunities for process improvement

  • Experience and/or proven ability to assess organizational culture and appropriately adapt strategy, communication, influence, and work efforts to deliver required results

  • 4+ years of direct responsibility for management of complex, cross-functional initiatives

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$95200 - $182400 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environment

This role offers an in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangement in Des Moines, IA.
