Principal Financial Group Senior Compliance Specialist (Financial Crimes) in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

Join Principal Financial Group as a Senior Compliance Specialist and advance your career in financial crimes compliance. Take part in our world-class anti-money laundering (AML) efforts, protecting clients and the financial market.

What you’ll do:

  • Be knowledgeable about AML and anti-fraud laws, including elder financial exploitation, and adhere to Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets Control, and FinCEN compliance requirements.

  • Communicate AML responsibilities and provide guidance to applicable business areas.

  • Collaborate with leadership, AML Officers/Managers, and compliance personnel to coordinate the gathering, analysis, and documentation of information for effective suspicious activity reporting. Stay proficient in writing and editing mandatory Suspicious Activity Reports for FinCEN.

  • Conduct reviews and investigations of AML related activity received via monitoring reports and referrals from business partners and management.

  • Collaborate with fraud partners during cross-discipline investigations.

  • Participate in compliance-related projects as needed, as well as industry working groups and forums to promote the Financial Crimes/AML Program.

  • Identify issues and collaborate with the business for resolution.

  • Assist in review and revision of procedures as needed.

  • Participate in Risk Assessment review process.

  • Assist with training content development and delivery.

  • Respond to audit, risk, and regulator requests as needed.

  • Assist with technology-related initiatives as needed.

Who You Are

We're looking for someone with:

  • Degree, Associate / Bachelor’s or equivalent experience

  • 6+ years of direct compliance experience

  • Proficient with analyzing data and performing research and investigations on issues presented for Anti-Money Laundering/Suspicious Activity Report review required

  • Advanced organizational and multi-tasking skills

  • Computer skills (MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel and Word), including knowledge of various systems or tools necessary to perform this job (e.g., Accurint, Archer, Sales Force, and others as needed)

  • Experience with drafting compliance documentation including policies, standards, processes and procedures

  • ACAMS certification strongly preferred.

  • FINRA series 7 a plus.

Successful candidate will have the following:

  • Able to work with employees at all levels and collaborate effectively with business unit leadership as applicable

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priority projects simultaneously, successfully balancing priorities and target dates

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with business partners across the enterprise

  • Ability to adapt to regulatory, process and system changes required within the evolving AML Program

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$77350 - $123000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
