Job Title: Microbiology Lab Technician

Job Description

Perform laboratory testing on all incoming samples in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner. Ensure sample turnaround time goals are met or exceeded. Enter sample data into the eLIMS system promptly and accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory testing on incoming samples.

  • Ensure sample turnaround time goals are met or exceeded.

  • Keep work area clean, sanitized, and tidy.

  • Homogenize and aseptically split samples into bags.

  • Enrich samples with media.

  • Incubate samples using the LIMS system.

  • Check samples into retain using storage management.

  • Identify non-conformances and out-of-specification samples.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in biology, microbiology, or a related field.

  • Proficiency with laboratory techniques and aseptic techniques.

  • Experience with plating and sterile techniques.

  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • AAS or BA degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced lab environment.

  • Positive personality, strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and move with purpose.

  • Willingness to work in a collaborative, all-hands-on-deck environment.

Work Environment

The shift is Monday to Friday starting at 12 PM. The Microbiology Business Unit performs various micro testing, including pet food, ingredients, nutraceuticals, and food dyes. The lab is time-sensitive and may require 45-50 hours of work per week, with the possibility of 1-2 hours of overtime per day based on workload. Candidates must be comfortable with these demands. Lab appropriate wear includes long pants, closed-toe shoes, lab coat, and safety glasses. Physical demands include standing for extended periods and utilizing hand movements frequently.
