Principal Financial Group Financial Analyst - Workplace Savings & Retirement Solutions in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

Workplace Savings & Retirement Solutions is looking for a Financial Analyst to join the Finance team! You’ll be responsible for assisting with forecasting, reporting, planning, profitability analysis, and more! We’re looking for someone who thrives on solving unique problems with advanced analytical skills and enjoys working with several internal partners and tools.

You’ll have the opportunity to

  • Perform financial planning and analysis for WSRS initiatives, including but not limited to estimating and tracking customer lifetime value, strategic and/or cross business unit investments, and helping to grow the value of Principal’s retirement plan participants

  • Build and own the financial forecasting of Principal’s Individual Solutions segment

  • Leverage large amounts of data to prepare and communicate a variety of financial reports to other teams and senior leadership

  • Analyze financial information and develop the financial case for initiatives impacting Principal's retirement and/or workplace personal investing businesses

  • Present and communicate financial analyses to leadership in a clear and concise way

  • Work towards self-development by expanding knowledge of department, line of business, and industry

  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, actuarial science, math, or related field

  • 2+ years of relevant financial analysis experience, financial modeling / forecasting experience preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft applications, specifically Excel (familiarity with formulas, functions, pivot tables, and modeling best practices)

  • SAS, PowerBI, SQL experience preferred

  • Self-motivated with excellent problem solving, leadership, and analytical skills

  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills

  • Ability to embrace and understand the change process, and effectively guides others through change

Skills That Make You Stand Out

  • Ability to build financial forecast models

  • Creative thinking with ability to own initiatives

  • Retirement and/or record keeping experience

  • Informal leadership and mentorship preferred

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$63750 - $147600 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.

Job Level

We’ll consider talent at the next level (Financial Analyst IV) with the right experiences and skills.
