Overview

The Sr Manager, People at our Buffalo, NY distribution facility is a key partner in providing comprehensive HR/People support and fostering strategic partnerships within the operation. You will provide guidance and coaching to all employees and managers on policies, employee engagement, employee relations, and recognition programs. In this role, you will also partner with the People Team in the following areas: Benefits, Payroll, Compensation, and engagement processes, and HR systems.

The position reports to the VP, People and serves as a strategic business partner to the facility site leader in Buffalo.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the People function for the distribution facility and ensure that all practices are compliant with legal regulations and corporate policies.

  • Serve as a member of the site senior leadership team and contribute to the implementation of policy and strategy that balances the needs of the business with the needs of staff.

  • Support a collaborative, positive culture which engages employees.

  • Foster robust employee relations across the facility, serving as a trusted advocate and advisor.

  • Partner with HarperCollins People and Payroll teams, including lending occasional People/HR support to our Return Center in LaPorte, IN.

  • Support talent acquisition programs including developing local recruitment strategies, developing an awareness of local market competitiveness, and creating strategies to attract and retain talent, developing site specific on-boarding processes and managing 3rd party freelance contract labor service providers.

  • Administer the performance management process and development programs, including the development and delivery of training for associates, supervisors and managers.

  • Oversee administration of all leave policies including FMLA, disability and worker’s compensation.

  • Participate in contract creation and renewals with third parties for: security, vending and 3 rd Party Freelance contract labor.

  • Manage HRBP/Admin in Buffalo, NY. Provide support to People/HRBP at our return center in LaPorte, IN.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field preferred

  • 7 to 10 years of progressive HR experience, with a focus on leadership roles and managing direct reports

  • 5+ years of experience in areas of Employee Relations, Employee Engagement, Recruiting, Coaching, Change Management, ideally within a warehouse, fulfillment center, or manufacturing setting

  • Ability to influence and partner with different levels of the organization to achieve results

  • Able to work efficiently with a variety of personnel

  • Strong discernment, including problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and self-initiative

  • Thorough understanding of state and federal wage and hour regulations, performance management, employee engagement, and leave administration

  • Experience with Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience with HR management systems, applicant tracking systems and payroll systems a plus. Knowledge of iCIMS, Ultimate Software (UKG) is a plus. Knowledge of time clock and hourly payroll processes is beneficial.

  • Excellent written, verbal, public presentation /communication skills and strong interpersonal social skills required

  • Position may require out of state travel

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $115,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.
