Humana VP, Enterprise Data Governance & Protection. in Denver, Colorado

The role of the Vice President, Enterprise Data Governance & Protection is to lead Humana's data strategy including investments in acquisition and protection of data assets, enterprise-wide governance processes and tools, sensitive data management, data literacy and data quality. This individual will collaborate with senior stakeholders across Technology and all business units to influence enterprise-wide change while building and coaching her/his own team of experts. She/he will be a visionary leader, well versed in applied data governance processes, legislation regulating use of personal and health data, managing a wide portfolio of programs and use of innovative ML/AI based approaches for data governance. She/he will be responsible for data protection strategy and execution to improve cyber breach resistance.

She/he will be responsible for establishing an enterprise data strategy, enable enterprise scale data science and AI. The VP will also contribute to Humana's digital journey by cultivating a data rich environment, fortified by best practices in data management. Toward this goal, the Enterprise Data Governance leader will act as a consultant and advisor, and strongly influence the thinking of executive leaders and their respective teams.

She/he will be responsible for the data security strategy, including and not limited to data loss prevention, data protection technologies, like encryption and tokenization. Work closely with the technology stakeholders to identify and enforce adequate security controls, including granular authorization.

Key responsibilities for the Vice President, Enterprise Data Governance & Protection leader include:

  • Build and lead a vibrant, world-class organization including experts in sensitive data governance, data lineage and mapping, data enrichment, data quality, data democratization, innovation and data program management.

  • Operate and enhance data governance capabilities by managing the creation and execution of a continuously improving road map of capabilities (technology, people, budgets and processes) to ensure data capabilities are effectively integrated into business execution.

  • Provide expertise, consult and lead innovation, tap into new innovative data sources, invest and partner to buy or build modern tools improving data quality, data anonymization, differential privacy and synthetic data creation.

  • Interact with executives and the analytics community to articulate the value of data and guide on effective and safe data use practices. Facilitate valuable relationships across the data and analytics teams and business leaders, driving to the right questions that yield meaningful insights and actionable results.

  • Engage in AI (GAI) and ML initiatives to ensure data strategy is aligned to deliver on the capabilities to enable the organization

  • Enhance and execute data loss prevention (DLP) program strategy, to improve cybersecurity controls around data exfiltration. Manage the engineering capabilities, including tools that enable encryption/tokenization, DLP and CASB (Cloud Access Security Broker), and continuously mature the program

  • Modernize data scanning, tagging and labeling to aid in data governance and improve the data loss prevention capabilities

  • Lead the Data Risk Assessment Cybersecurity program to identify and manage data security risks across applications and various business and technology initiatives

  • Partner with Security Architecture and Enterprise Architecture to select and implement solutions that enable data governance and data security outcomes.

Use your skills to make an impact

Specific qualifications for the Vice President, Enterprise Data Governance leader include:

  • Seven or more years of leadership experience of data governance organizations in a corporate environment, in fast paced, complex and matrix organizations.

  • Ten or more years of data governance experience in a corporate setting including on-prem and cloud environments

  • Relevant experience with data protection strategies, including encryption, tokenization, data loss prevention and access controls

  • Experience with cyber security assessments and controls in the space of data security and protection

  • Relevant experience in health, consumer goods or technology industries

  • Successfully integrating and leveraging strategic data governance with business objectives, translating data processes into business insights and actionable customer management strategies yielding positive measurable financial outcomes.

  • Prior hands-on experience and/or leadership responsibility for the technical tools of the trade,

  • including data mapping and cataloging software, data marketplace and data enrichment systems.

  • A Culture Shaper, Talent Builder, Results Driver, Health Systems Thinker, an Influencer, an

  • Accountability Partner and Collaborator, who effectively engages the broad organization to execute towards common goals.

  • Deep experience in data architecture, warehousing, quality processes, and implementation.

  • Strong evidence of ability to introduce emerging technologies and develop analytics based products, while maintaining cost awareness and commercial strategy.

  • Advanced and/or dual degrees in Computer Science, Predictive Analytics, Statistics, Law, Data

  • Security, Mathematics, or related. Ph.D. in a relevant area or an MBA is an additional asset.
