Job Summary and Qualifications

This position supports the mission of Presbyterian/St Luke’s Medical Center (PSLMC) of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The Surgical Technician demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to function in the scrub role during surgical procedures performed in the department. The Surgical Technician is experienced in all aspects as aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases; pulling cases as needed; and breaking down cases at the end of the procedure. He/she is knowledgeable and demonstrates advanced resource skills regarding instrumentation, equipment, and supply needs for all types of surgical procedures. The Surgical Technician may come in contact with medications and therefore must demonstrate understanding of proper medication management and storage as well as maintaining a secure medication environment. The position provides education on procedures, instrumentation & equipment as needed and may function in the role of preceptor. The Surgical Technician performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice, functions within the philosophy & overall plan for PSLMC and follows & supports PSLMC’s policy & procedures. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

What qualifications you will need:

• State of Colorado Surgical Registry required (DORA). BLS required. Current CST Certification from NBSTSA preferred.

• Graduate of Surgical Technician Program.

• One year experience as a Surgical Technician in an OR required. 3-5 years as an OB Surgical Technician preferred. Ability to meet the requirements of Surgical Technician III position.

• Advanced knowledgeable of surgical procedures, equipment and instrumentation. Must be able to precept and mentor new and existing staff members in the role of a Surgical Technician.
