About the Opportunity

As our Senior Staff Engineering Director, you are a servant leader who puts an emphasis on driving positive, data-oriented results. Your unwavering commitment to customer service fuels your enthusiasm to spearhead and bolster innovative solutions for the institutions and students we are dedicated to serving. You will lead a highly engaged engineering team, working cross-functionally with product and design teams to manage a technology portfolio of services supporting multiple product lines in the Financial Aid Services domain. You will provide oversight on the execution of multiple mission critical initiatives to advance the portfolio while ensuring operational excellence on the current service offerings. Your analytical and innovative mindset, coupled with your creative problem-solving abilities, empower you to swiftly grasp the business challenges we address and the technical patterns we employ. You will leverage your established track record of consistently delivering on c ommitments to foster the organization's evolution and expansion.

In this role, you will:

Strategy, Leadership and, Communication (40%)

  • Partner with program stakeholders in strategic positioning and modernization of College Board products and services

  • Stay abreast of the disruptive trends in the technology and higher education domain, innovate and employ cutting edge technologies to enhance the value proposition to our constituents

  • Define/refine a vision, roadmap, and process framework to build, manage, and operate a suite of complex applications, including but not limited to home grown, SaaS, API solutions in (responsive) mobile and web platf

  • Develop credible plans to build the technological and operational capabilities focused on the value delivery, operational excellence, and security of the identities, assets, and data

  • Provide thought leadership and direction throughout the product lifecycle (technical operations, technology delivery methods and practices, and appropriate compliance and policy standards) to the successful outcomes

  • Establish and maintain internal (Enterprise Architecture, Information Security Office, Risk & Compliance, etc.) and external partnerships (Technology and Staffing vendors) to optimize the executions and ensure alignment with enterprise vision, standards, and guidelines

  • Communicate key decisions, risks, and barriers to the executive steering committee for resolution

  • Exhibit behavioral styles that convey confidence and derive respect from others; Represent the College Board in alignment with our values

Team Management (25%)

  • Build high performing teams and maintain team morale; inspire and sustain team cohesion and engagement

  • Own and develop the culture of the team, centered around collaboration, empowerment, recognition, and professionalism

  • Lead, develop, inspire, and manage a team of senior technologists and engineering leaders, effectively engaging them in goal setting, performance evaluation, and career/skill development acti ities

  • Ensure and inspire a culture that celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Evaluate and adapt the structure of assignments and work processes to best fit the evolving needs of the portfolio

  • Identify, create, and implement learning opportunities for the team

  • Cultivate and uphold College Board's mission and operating principles within the organizational culture, fostering a consistently productive and equitable work environment

Execution (35%)

  • Ensure successful execution of roadmaps across the portfolio delivering high customer satisfaction and optimal value
