Position Summary:

The Sr. Manager, Energy & Sustainable Operations is responsible for enabling J&J facilities to achieve its climate goals, including 100% renewable electricity and decarbonization of our operations. The role will work with site teams to develop decarbonization roadmaps including energy efficiency measures, decarbonization technologies and clean energy programs to reduce risk, reduce CO2 emissions while delivering savings where possible. This role is responsible for project development, implementation and budgeting to support energy and conservation projects for the MedTech site operations. The role also includes conducting industry benchmarking within their region for energy and water efficiency, clean energy use, renewable thermal solutions and a low carbon value chain. The role will also scan and track current and future regional legislative and compliance requirements relating to the energy supply market and demand side operations.

The role will be the global sector energy lead and single point of contact regarding energy management programs. It will also support key regional relationships in Americas, including communication and coordination with key regional stakeholders and customers from E&PS and enterprise-wide leadership within the region to ensure successful implementation and management of the energy program across regions.

Key Responsibilities:

Global Sector Responsibilities: (60%)

  • Manage development and implementation of segment decarbonization strategies and waterfalls to align with overall business objectives.

  • Manage data collection and analytics to measure performance against energy, water efficiency, and renewable energy goals in coordination with the Facilities Management (FM) Performance Management Specialist

  • Develop site programs and rollout methodology to implement FM Energy & Conservation initiatives globally for designated segment.

  • Provide consulting and coaching service to sites on executing decarbonization and energy conservation initiatives.

  • Support sites in the development of projects to meet decarbonization targets.

  • Collate and report progress against reduction targets at segment and franchise level.

  • Collaborate with sites to prepare business case and financial analysis for energy and decarbonization projects and submit to the CO2 Capital Relief Program on sites’ behalf.

  • Manage and implement CO2 Capital relief governance process for tracking and reporting CO2 project progress and cashflow.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with global and regional business unit/franchise/platform leadership responsible for sustainability in both the supply chain and commercial business organization.

  • Collaborate and provide SME support to site FM leaders and business stakeholders/site leadership associated with designated Global Segment.

  • Provide updates as necessary to segment dashboards on energy and sustainability metrics.

  • Collaborate and support BU Finance to provide capital, energy and emissions budget and usage data to support LRFP (Long Range Financial Planning), BP (Budget Planning) quarterly financial updates.

Regional Responsibilities: (40%)

  • Facilitate energy procurement process in region inclusive of both brown power and renewable energy options.

  • Establish effective communication with vendors to ensure product, service and quality standards.

  • Participate in regional peer groups and government/non-government organizations to represent J&J

  • Responsible for horizon scanning and benchmarking of energy marketplace.

  • Responsible for proactively managing energy related regulatory compliance needs in region.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with Government Grant Office, Government Affairs, Finance, Tax, Treasury and Cashflow office representative in the region regarding Energy related incentives and funding opportunities.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with regional E&PS leadership, sit as extended team member on E&PS Regional FM leadership team.

  • Provide updates as necessary to regional E&PS dashboards on energy and sustainability metrics.

  • Collaborate with regional and Global Workstreams leadership and regional FM operations organization to manage energy and conservation-related nuances among region to ensure successful program implementation and management.

  • Partner with Office of Sustainability, EHS and sector facilities teams to deliver J&J Health for Humanity program goals.

  • Support development and deployment of policies, standards, and strategy globally for energy and conservation (E&C) including:

o Climate-friendly policies and outreach

o Energy, water efficiency and renewable energy programs

o Sustainability energy performance ratings

  • Manage supplier selection and contract negotiations for key energy and conservation initiatives, in coordination with Procurement and the Services Strategy and Governance team.

  • Conduct industry benchmarking for energy and water efficiency, on-site clean energy use, and a low carbon value chain.

  • Coordinate energy-related reporting to state and federal agencies as required.

  • Coordinate energy deliverables with outsourced Facilities Management organizations in region.

  • Develop and vet the availability and market readiness of new energy, decarbonization and renewable technologies in region.

Qualifications

Education:

A minimum of a Bachelors or equivalent University degree is required, with a focus in Science or Engineering preferred.

Required:

  • A minimum of 7 years relevant work experience

  • Familiarity within the facilities environment, particularly with chillers, boilers, HVAC, compressed air, lighting, and process utilities like water for injection. Particularly important to understand how to decarbonize steam and hot water systems.

  • Experience managing contracts related to large-scale energy facilities.

  • Experience building strategic relationships with internal and external project partners and stakeholders.

  • Experience and success managing energy projects in diverse regulatory environments.

  • Experience managing complex energy & conservation work streams, specifically across geographically dispersed teams.

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM from AEE) or Lighting Certified (LC through NCQLP) or equivalent industry certification.

  • Global experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge related to design or engineering fields (civil, electrical, plumbing, mechanical) as well as landscape, architectural, and / or interior design.

Preferred:

  • Experience in facility management (utilities), financial management, OR energy management / sustainability management.

  • Strong business acumen and relationship building skills.

  • The ability to effectively partner and deliver results in a matrixed environment.

  • The ability to adapt emerging best practices and industry innovations to facilities management.

  • Strong project management skills, proven organization, coordination and action tracking skills

  • Ability to function effectively and multitask when presented with tight deadlines.

  • Ability to influence both site technicians and senior leaders without authority.

  • Computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office Suite

Other:

  • This position may require up to 25% domestic & international travel

  • This position has an estimated annual salary of 118,000- 236,000 USD$
