Remote DOCSIS Engineer at TEKsystems

TEKsystems is actively seeking a DOCSIS Engineer for our client based in Alaska. This role is 100% remote, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home during traditional Alaska daytime business hours, 8am - 5pm AKT Monday through Friday.

What You’ll Do

As a DOCSIS Engineer, you will bring your expertise in:

• CMTS

• Cable modem platforms

• HFC and/or EPON delivered systems

Your responsibilities will include:

• Planning, forecasting, and implementing network systems of high complexity

• Designing, developing, and implementing network enhancements

• Making recommendations for improvement

• Implementing network architecture and designs

Major Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Participate in network planning, network architecture design, and engineering

• Integrate communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission, and protocols into complete network configurations

• Evaluate new products

• Resolve network problems

• Develop and implement approved methods of procedure

• Design, develop, and implement network enhancements and make recommendations for improvement

• Define, design, and implement long-term standards that meet or exceed network engineering industry standards and best practices in availability, efficiency, security, and scalability

• Ensure that all network assets and facilities supporting the network elements are engineered to expected life cycle

• Support network growth through network engineering analysis and design, and basic project management related tasks

• Provide platform troubleshooting, problem escalation support, and platform NMS reporting support

• Deploy projects involving HFC, DAA, xDSL, and access technology platform growth

  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate should have:

• Practical experience in wireline access platforms; HFC a plus. Experience with DAA network topologies and technologies

• Demonstrated understanding of DOCSIS and familiarity with Cable-Labs Packet-Cable standards

• Experience with Cisco, Arris, Nokia, Harmonic, and Calix access platform design, configuration, and troubleshooting. Advanced understanding of and familiarity in various Access technologies including R-PHY, R-MAC DAA, MPLS, xDSL,TDM wireline

• Proficiency in CDWM and DWDM optical technology

• Knowledge and familiarity with aggregation router

• Experience with Cisco and/or Nokia/Vecima DPoE PON equipment

• Strong HFC and PON CPE knowledge

• Familiarity with EPON technologies

• Thorough understanding of access CPE; modems, ONUs, etc.

• Demonstrated practical experience in IP network design

• Proven expertise in IPv4 addressing, subnetting, and optimization

• Basic knowledge of IPv6 addressing and implementation

• Advanced analytical and network modeling skills involving HFC DAA and access technology-based platforms

• Basic understanding of scalable, secure networks considering full lifecycle design

• Understanding of IP routing protocols such as ISIS, OSPF, EIGRP, and others

• Basic understanding of ISP, OSP, HFC components and RF network design

• Demonstrated practical experience in design of ethernet networking topologies

• Understanding of DOCSIS and internet provisioning systems including IPDR

• Effective in both written and verbal communications

• Highly effective in utilizing Excel & Visio
