Amazon Web Services is looking for a highly motivated and technically savvy Network Development Engineer to help develop and scale one of the world’s largest and most complex networks.

The Network Development Engineer will be supporting our backbone business development team and our backbone operations team to drive the stability and sustainability of our next-generation networks and to discover innovative ways to automate and scale our network as we expand. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of technical leadership and success in driving complex issues to resolution, autonomously and/or collaboratively. The successful candidate will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of networking, networking concepts and theory. They will have experience proactively managing engineering projects, network optimization initiatives and operational network support for a large-scale service provider. The successful candidate will be expected to provide high quality network event management for Amazon's global network.
As a technical leader, he/she will manage complex stakeholder relationships, both technical and commercial. Key job responsibilities
• Provide critical network operations support to internal customers, dive deep into circuit performance to identify and troubleshoot chronic problems such as link flaps, outages and latency spikes.
• Conduct data acquisition and to support service assurance and performance management of the services provided by the suppliers.
• Develop mechanisms to automatically engage suppliers for chronic circuits.
• Develop mechanisms to track RFO’s for chronic circuits ensuring we don’t have repeat offenders and drive service improvement plans where appropriate.
• Deliver a solution to maintain carrier escalation matrices and up-to-date contact details.
• Influence carriers and work closely with them to open and adapt their ticketing system APIs to AWS requirements (ticketing and maintenance notifications).
• Build an effective process for working with the backbone business development team, the backbone provisioning team and the network operations team to ensure services are delivered and maintained per technical specifications and service level agreements.
• Create and review documentation and processes regarding recurring operational issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.
• Identify and drive opportunities to automate repeatable networking tasks through creation and maintenance of scripts and tools
• Deliver availability, latency and utilization reports of the backbone network on a regular cadence.
A day in the life
As an NDE in the InfraComms team, you will be responsible for:
• Handling both reactive and proactive operational issues related to AWS's external network services such as PNI, Public Peering, Transit, Embedd Caches, and Backbone.
• Engaging in advanced triaging for critical services and maintaining ownership of troubleshooting and communication.
• You will also enhance and develop mechanism to further improve AWS network processes for a better availability and connectivity.

The InfraComms team is composed of experts in the internet ecosystem, with comprehensive knowledge of interconnectivity layers. The team operates on a 24x5 schedule across EU/NA/AP regions, ensuring a superior experience for AWS internal and external customers. You will be working alongside a diverse group of Network Development Engineers from the AMER, APAC, and EMEA regions.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large–scale network environment
1+ years experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data center and/or WAN network environments.
1+ years Unix/Linux command line experience
Preferred Qualifications
Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, Server Load Balancing, and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF/IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Server Load Balancers, Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, LDAP, NFS, etc.
Expereince and ability to script in Perl, Python, shell, C or C++ is highly desirable

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $102,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
