Position Emphasis:

The Disability Resources and Services Coordinator will assist in the development and determination of reasonable accommodations by working with campus partners, including faculty and staff, to allow students with disabilities full participation in the programs offered by the University. The Disability Resources and Services Coordinator will engage in an interactive process to conduct intake interviews, determine eligibility for accommodations, coordinate and implement approved accommodations, make referrals to appropriate campus resources, as well as serve as a resource for disability-related matters through attending orientation, open houses, and departmental meetings. This role will coordinate and implement educational programs and collaborate with other campus departments to integrate disability-related competencies into educational programming. This position will also represent DRS on various campus wide committees.

Supervision Received

This position will be supervised by the Assistant Director of Disability Resources & Services.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Review disability related documentation with regard to currency, completeness and appropriateness in accord with Section 504 and the ADAAA.

  • Conduct intake interviews with eligible students and determine appropriate accommodations based on identified limitations.

  • Provide direct support and services to recruit and retain students with disabilities. Document interactions with prospective and registered students.

  • Conduct disability-related outreach and education to the university community as well as outside communities. Participate in relevant committees effectively representing disability issues.

  • Serve as a liaison between the Office of Disability Resources & Services and the faculty to assist with implementation of accommodations.

  • Serve as a representative for the Office of Disability Resources & Services and attend orientations and open houses.

  • Maintain current knowledge of disability-related issues including relevant case law and rulings.

  • Adhere to departmental standards established in Disability Resources & Services as well as policies and procedures of the University of Colorado Denver.

  • This position may be asked to assist in other areas of office operations including supporting special projects, assistance with reception desk coverage and proctoring of final exams.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, special education, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, psychology, social work, or other human services field.

  • A combination of education and related experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific experience.

  • One (1) year of professional level experience working with individuals with disabilities

Conditions of Employment

  • This position is funded for three (3) Years. Continued employment for this position after 3 years will be dependent upon securement of future funding.

Preferred Requirements

  • Master's Degree in education, special education, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, psychology or human services field.

  • Previous experience in a disability services office in a postsecondary education setting.

  • Experience, licensure, and/or certifications in crisis and mental health management.

  • Experience supporting students from underrepresented and marginalized backgrounds with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a professional understanding of intersectionality of identities in disability services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Applicable federal and state laws, i.e., Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act & Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, along with relevant case law pertaining to disability in higher education.

  • The types of accommodations available for students with disabilities in the postsecondary setting.

  • Conflict resolution and mediation

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Strong and clear interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Organization, attention to detail, and time management.

Abilities:

  • To conduct a thorough review of medical, educational, and/or psychological documentation, and follow up with appropriate professionals regarding current functional limitations.

  • To coordinate accommodations with faculty, administrative and facilities staff.

  • To develop and present information regarding the assessment and implementation of accommodations in the postsecondary setting.

  • Demonstrated experience in independent decision-making.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring range (or salary range) for this position has been established at $49,658 - $51,500 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
