Description of Job

The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is hiring a Director of Accessibility Services to join our Student Affairs team. We’re looking for someone who is disability informed and able to approach learners where they are to meet their needs. This role serves as the principal advocate and subject matter expert for CCCS’s Disability & Accessibility Services departments, including providing guidance and expertise on complex disability or accommodation-related matters. We want to provide increased access to accommodations, assistive technology, and accessible course materials for CCCS students. To that end, we need the person in this role to increase consistency in disability/accessibility practices and accommodation implementation across the system. Special emphasis will be placed on practices related to digital technology and online accessibility support services needed to support students from across colleges who are enrolled in course sections offered through Colorado Online and the Rural College Consortium.

Some duties of the position include

  • Directing discussions and collaborating with stakeholders on the adoptions of systemwide assistive technology and disability data management tools and software. Training staff at colleges on how to use tools and software, providing ongoing support as needed.

  • Leading initiatives related to digital accessibility compliance, including developing strategies for assessment and creating best practices that align with evolving laws and technology in disability service provision, including digital accessibility.

  • Guiding development of necessary policies and procedures for managing student disability, accessibility, and accommodation needs.

  • Actively participating in national, regional, and local professional organizations that cater to access and disability services and acting as the CCCS liaison to these types of organizations.

  • Directly supervising one employee.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. (An equivalent combination of education and/or work experience may substitute for the degree.)

  • Three years of experience in disability services, accessibility remediation, or closely related field, which includes experience working with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

  • Experience working in higher education and with students with disabilities.

  • Proven ability to partner across department and organizational units.

  • Practiced in educating students and faculty on assistive technologies (i.e., Kurzweil, Read and Write Gold, JAWS, or other assistive technologies).

  • Demonstrated skills in preparing professional development materials for faculty and staff.

  • Willingness to participate in national, regional, and local professional organizations (i.e., AHEAD, COWY AHEAD, Access Higher Ground, NASPA/ACPA).

  • Knowledge of the most recent Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Standards.

Work Location/Travel Expectations:

  • This position is located at the CCCS offices at 9026 E Severn Pl, Denver, CO.

  • Travel within Colorado may be required up to 20% of the time.

  • Alternative work arrangements, including flexible schedules and hybrid-remote work may be available. All work must be completed in the state of Colorado.
